Teresa Turner: Obituary

Obituaries

Teresa Turner died in Suches, Georgia, at the age of 90, after a happy life of friendships and fun. She was predeceased by her parents Alee S. and Dr. Thomas L. Tidmore, brother Dr. Thomas L. Tidmore, Jr., and the-love-of-her-life August B. Turner, her husband of 68 years.

Teresa was born in Atlanta, attended S. M. Inman elementary school, O’Keefe junior high, and graduated from Washington Seminary in 1944, breaking many hearts along the way.

After graduation she attended Newcomb College in New Orleans with her good friend and future sister-in-law Mathilde Howell (nee Turner) where she was a Chi Omega.

World War II ended, and Teresa’s wedded life began June 17, 1947, when she married August. As a doctor’s wife, she was very active in charity work and garden clubs. Over the years, she was President of Lenox Park, Indian Creek, Pleasant Hill Garden Clubs, Gardener’s Club, and Rabun Gap Club. She spent many years enjoying the Cherokee Town & Country Club, Capital City Club, and the Peachtree Racket Club.

In 1987, Teresa followed her husband to retirement in Suches, Ga., helping him to fulfill his dream of becoming a gentleman farmer. There she brought her grace and charm to a new community.

Teresa was an avid bridge player, belonging to many weekly and bi-weekly fun card groups. After moving to the mountains, she still maintained her busy bridge schedule until she could no longer drive to Atlanta.

Teresa is survived by sons August B. “Winn” Turner, Jr. (Lee) of Atlanta, John William “Bill” Turner II of Suches, grandsons Christopher S. Turner (Amy) of Washington D.C., Andrew M. Turner (Lillian) of Raleigh N.C., great-grandsons Jet, Will, and Colin of D.C., her brother Bill Tidmore (Cathy) of Melbourne Beach, Fl., sisters-in-law Marion Tidmore of Gainesville, Ga. and Mathilde Howell of Meridian, Ms. and many nieces and nephews.

The celebration of her life will be 11AM on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches, Ga. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
