LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — A Lumpkin County man allegedly shot himself to death this morning after a tense standoff with White County and Lumpkin County law enforcement officers.

The incident began shortly after 7:15 this morning when White County authorities attempted to serve a bench warranty on Roy Carr of 1036 Rock House Road in Lumpkin County for failure to appear in court on theft charges out of White County.

Carr immediately barricaded himself, his wife and two children inside the home and refused to surrender. He repeatedly went in and out of the residence brandishing a gun and threatening to shoot officers. The White County officers called Lumpkin County officers to the scene at approximately 7:20.

Shortly thereafter, the wife and children were allowed to leave the residence unharmed. Lumpkin County officers quickly escorted the wife and children out of the area to safety. A single gunshot was heard from inside the residence and when officers made entry, the found Carr located just inside with a single gunshot to the head.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted and asked to investigate the incident.
