False hit-and-run report leads to woman’s arrest

Jessica Remillard

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – A false hit-and-run report filed with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office last week has led to the arrest of a 36-year-old Dahlonega woman.

On Nov. 29, Jessica Remillard, of 953 Morrison Moore Parkway, reported that her Kia Soul had been struck by another vehicle while she was shopping in the Fresh and Low on Main Street. Remillard told deputy Heath Higman that she had inspected the vehicle earlier in the day and there was no damage. Upon inspection of the vehicle, Higman said he became suspicious that the damage was not fresh.

Higman said he offered to go to the nearby bank and view their video cameras but, according to the arrest report, Remillard began acting confused and said the accident could have happened a day earlier. He said he offered her a form to complete and told her to present it to her insurance company.

Later, when he discussed the incident with Cpl. Frank Hughes, he was told the same person had attempted to file a hit-and-run accident report on Nov. 21.

Higman then went to Remillard’s residence where she admitted she lied and made the false report of a crime in an attempt to save money with her insurance company. She was placed under arrest and turned over to the Lumpkin County Detention Center staff.
