Mary Louise Beard

Mrs. Mary Louise Beard, age 76, of Dahlonega passed away December 14, 2018.

Mrs. Beard was born on August 11, 1942 in Harriman, TN to the late Jesse and Hattie Bane.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Martin DeHart , son Michael DeHart, and mother-in-law Rose DeHart.  Mrs. Beard worked hard to help provide for her family. She worked as a substitute teacher, poultry plant worker, and house cleaner.  Mrs. Beard was affectionately called “Granny Louise” by her grandchildren.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Marty and Jackie DeHart, Dahlonega; daughter-in-law Jackie DeHart, Cumming; granddaughters Kayla DeHart, Shannon DeHart and Leah DeHart, Dahlonega.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the Chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Kris Butler will officiate. Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Saturday at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.

Gladys Grizzle

August 23, 1924 – November 14, 2018

Mrs. Gladys Mary Grizzle, age 94, of Dahlonega went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.

Mrs. Grizzle was born in Oneida, TN on August 23, 1924 to the late Ben and Cora Mays Davis.  She was preceded in death by her husband Paul L. Grizzle, daughter Betty Head, and great granddaughter Taylor Caldwell.  Mrs. Grizzle was the last of three siblings.  She was a loving mother and grandmother.  Mrs. Grizzle was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and she loved to garden.  Her love for sewing began when she would make clothes for her children.  Mrs. Grizzle’s grandchildren affectionately called her “Grandma”.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law Kathy and Charles Caldwell; grandchildren Randy Head, Tammy and Stacy Avery, Tina and Danny Teater, Chuck and Shannon Caldwell, and Darian and Kim Caldwell, all of Dahlonega; nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; sisters in law Carrie Robinson, of Athens; Bertha Gooch,and Loretta Grizzle, both of Dahlonega; sister in law and brother in law Nell and Junior Simmons of Dahlonega; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, November 17, 2018 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Kris Butler, the Rev. Lyman Caldwell, the Rev. Stacy Avery, and the Rev. Terry Head will officiate.  Interment will follow in Yahoola Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Andy Caldwell officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Idelle Davis

May 07, 1926 – November 06, 2018

Mary Idelle Davis, 98, of Murrayville, Lumpkin County, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness.

Born in Dawson County on May 7, 1920 to parents Joseph Newton and Nancy Wallace Davis, Idelle had lived most of her life in Lumpkin County. She maintained her church membership at Harmony Baptist Church in Dawson County but attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2 and most recently, Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was a member of the ladie’s goodwill circle at each and helped prepare and serve many good meals. She was a retired seamstress from Babyland General.

In addition to her parents, Idelle was preceded in death by siblings, Charlie Davis and Imogene Bryan. She is survived by nieces and nephews; Judy and Chuck Gilreath, Cleveland, Alvin and Patsy Bryan, Dahlonega, Lee “Cub” and Charlotte Bryan, Dahlonega, Jerry and Barbara Bryan, Lula, Elaine Anthony, Lula. Great nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Idelle will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2018 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Buice and Rev. Freddy Bryan officiating. She will lie in state at the church beginning at 1:30. Interment will follow in the Zion Baptist Church #2 Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 8th from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 6 until 8 p.m. at Dahlonega Funeral Home.

Mary Willene Gipson: Obituary

Mary Willene Gipson

July 20, 1961 – December 05, 2018

When Mary Willene (Poss) Gipson recorded “After You”, she had no way of knowing that she would be the first to leave the loving union of marriage she shared with her husband of nearly 39 years.  Their’s was truly a romance that lasted her lifetime.  The song was recorded along with the single release “Plug My Heart Into the Jukebox” that climbed the Independent Charts to #1 and reached #4 on the Top 20 Independent Country Artist Radio Airplane Chart.

Mrs. Gipson, age 57, lost her battle with melanoma cancer on Wednesday, December 05, 2018 with her loving husband holding her hand and her family by her side.

She was born in Atlanta, GA on July 20, 1961 to the late James Poss and survived by her mother, Janice Farmer Poss Hulsey, who gave her great inspiration reminding her that she came from a long line of strong and courageous women.  She is a member of Hope Road Church of God.  She was a graduate of Lumpkin County High School Class of 1979.  She attended Truett McConnell College, later transferring to North Georgia College.  She completed two courses with the Children’s Institute of Children’s Literature, subsequently publishing her children’s book titled “The Tattered Feather”. Mrs. Gipson owned and operated Beacon Careers Limited for 20 years.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Nathaniel Poss and sister Judy Poss.

She is survived by her loving husband Voughn Gipson of Dahlonega; sons Hasley Gipson of Dahlonega, and Master Sergeant Wesley (Kristen) Gipson of Ewa Beach, HI; her grandchildren Caroline and Mary Gipson of Dahlonega, and Parker Gipson of Ewa Beach, HI; her brothers Marcus Hulsey of Dahlonega, and Jim Poss of Cleveland, TN; sister Paula Modisette of Murrayville; sister-in-law Venita Thomas of Norcross; and very special friend Carol Housley of Dahlonega.

Mrs. Gipson’s life will be celebrated at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  Mr. Bryan Shirley will officiate.  Member of the Blue Mountain Chapter #333, OES will deliver final rites. Interment will follow in Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery with a moving rendition of “Amazing Grace” performed on the bagpipe by Sam the Piper.

The family will recieve friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Catherine Heidler

Mrs. Mary Catherine Heidler, age 97, of Dahlonega passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018.

Mrs. Heidler was born in New Castle, PA on October 11, 1921 to the late Robert Lee and Nancy Barnes Swartzlander.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Dean Heidler, son Howard L. Fullwood, daughter Wendy Fullwood, and sisters Helen Buchanan and Florence Dripps.  Mrs. Heidler was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Marianna, FL.  She has lived in Dahlonega for the past two years.  While living here Mrs. Heidler attended and enjoyed the ministry of Dahlonega Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Greg and Julie Fullwood, Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law Melinda and Danny McDuffie, Dothan, AL; step-daughter Mary Ann Heidler, Crawfordville, FL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Marianna, FL.
