Alda Beth Gilleland: Obituary

Mrs. Alda Beth Gilleland, age 82 of Dahlonega departed earth for her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 following a period of declining health. She had lived at Oxton Place for the past five years where she was loved and cared for by the staff there.

She was born June 29, 1933 in Cleveland, Georgia to the late Jewell and Flora Fields Cleveland. Mrs. Gilleland was retired from North Georgia College where she served as business office manager. After retirement, she enjoyed gardening, community and church activities and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Cavender’s Creek Baptist Church where she had served as Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, member of the goodwill circle, treasurer of the goodwill circle and choir member. She was a devout Christian who loved her church and community and was always a willing servant in time of need. She was an awesome and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She had no regrets about her life and said if she could live it over, she would do everything the same.

Mrs. Gilleland was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Frank Gilleland as well as her parents and step-father, Claude Anderson. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roy B. and Lynn Gilleland of Acworth, Georgia and Jerry and Kathy Gilleland of Gainesville, Georgia, grandchildren and spouses; Jennifer and Michael Brown, Michelle and Ken Harkins, grandchildren; Dana Gilleland, Justin Gilleland, Scott Gilleland and Amy Gilleland, great-granddaughters; Kaitlin Ray and Emma Grace Harkins, other relatives and numerous friends also survive. She will truly be missed by everyone and our loss is heavens gain.

A homegoing service for Mrs. Gilleland will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 in the Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Stephen Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Cavender’s Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 27th from 6 – 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the service hour.

The family would like to express our gratitude to Halcyon Hospice for the excellent care and support which they provided to Alda. Special thanks to Danielle for overseeing all aspects of her care with a loving spirit.
