Lorene Nix Higgins: Obituary

Mrs. Lorene Nix Higgins, age 87, of Canton, formerly of Dahlonega, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016. She was born in White County on June 27, 1928 to parents Nelson Anderson and Matilda Winkler Nix and had lived in Lumpkin County most of her life. She was the widow of Rev. J.D. Higgins, former Lumpkin County Magistrate Judge. Mrs. Higgins was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings; Bernice Nix, Etheleen Wilkins, Randall Nix, and a daughter, Teresa Freeland. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law; Debbie and Lee Gaddis of Canton, Ga and daughter; Vanessa Higgins of Dahlonega, grandchildren; Michele (Todd) Seay, Dawsonville, Tamara Souther, Dawsonville, Gretchen (Steve) Caldwell, Canton and Tasha (Doug) Whitener, Marietta. Also survived by 5 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Higgins will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 in the Dahlonega Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Siloam Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 6th from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
