Rachel VanHorn Consensus Third Team All-American Selection

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – University of North Georgia forward Rachel VanHorn was a consensus selection as a Third Team All-American in the two major All-America programs for women’s soccer released by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as voted on by collegiate coaches and the Division II Conference Commissioners’ Association (D2CCA) as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She is sixth All-America honoree in the history of the women’s soccer program. This marks the third consecutive year that the team has been honored with an All-American selection.

“We are incredibly proud of Rachel’s selection as an All-American,” head coach Chris Adams said. “It has been amazing to watch her journey since arriving on campus and her progression on and off the field. She has made a tremendous impact on our program and could not be more deserving of the All-America honor.”

VanHorn set a new UNG single season records this season with 21 goals, 46 points, and tied former All-American Kelly Penston’s mark of 1.00 goals per game. The Marietta native now holds the North Georgia career record for shots on goal with 131 and ranks second all-time at UNG in goals scored (41), points (95), points per game (1.46), shots on goal per game (2.02), and goals per game (0.63).

The forward helped lead UNG to its most successful postseason run in program history as the Nighthawks made their third consecutive appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Championship match and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
