David Garnet Winkler, age 50, a life-long resident of Dahlonega, GA passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 following a brief illness.
True to the meaning of Dahlonega; David had a heart of gold. He was a Master Gold Mining Instructor and World Gold Panning Champion. David was also one of the founders of the Consolidated Gold Mine.
David was preceded in death by his father, Donald Winkler.
David is survived by his mother, Virginia Jarrard Winkler; brother, Aaron Winkler; sisters and brother-in-law, Joan Emily Winkler, Dr. Donna and Bryan Whitfield; nephews and niece, Dr. Bryan Whitfield VI, Nathan Whitfield, William Whitfield, and Brittany Grillo. Numerous other relatives also survive.
Memorial services for David are scheduled for 4 PM Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, GA.
Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega, GA on Sunday, February 12, 2017 one hour prior to service and again immediately following the service.
