Lightning Strike Destroys Blood Mountain Cabin

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. – A lightning strike completely destroyed one of the Blood Mountain rental cabins on Hwy 129 North yesterday afternoon.

The cabins are located in rugged, mountain terrain at Lumpkin County’s boundary with Union County. Union and Lumpkin have a mutual aid agreement and Union County firefighters were the first to arrive.

Lumpkin County Emergency Services Director David Wimpy said Union firefighters told him the cabin was fully involved when they arrived.

The cabin was unoccupied and no injuries were reported. There is no estimate on damage but the cabin is a total loss.
