Lumpkin Co. drops both ends of doubleheader at GAC

The Lumpkin Co. Indians (5-7, 0-2 Region 7-3A) lost to the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans (6-2, 2-0 Region 7-3A) in both games of the doubleheader the teams played on Friday night in Norcross. The Indians fell 6-1 in the first game and 8-5 in the second and final game of the night.

The Spartans scored two runs in each of the first three innings in game one to build a 6-0 lead. The Indians’ lone run of the game came in the top of the 5^th inning with the bases loaded. Following singles from Logan Choflet, Chase Bearmon, and Dalton Caldwell, GAC walked Caleb Childs to bring Choflet home.

In game two, the Spartans started off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second that came off an error from the Indians.

Lumpkin Co. responded in the top of the third inning, as Nick Turner hit a single that brought Choflet and Bearmon home after a GAC error. Turner then scored by stealing home after the Spartans’ catcher dropped the pitch. Two batters later, Brandon Alewine brought Harris Taylor home with a single to extend the Indians’ lead to 4-1.

After an RBI from Taylor in the top of the inning, the Spartans scored one run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Indians’ lead to 5-2.

GAC then scored five more runs in the fifth inning and another run in the sixth to win 8-5.

The two teams will face off again today, Saturday, March 7, in Dahlonega at 2 p.m.
