Lumpkin Shuts Out Temple To Remain Undefeated
Team FYN Sports, TeamFYNSports September 12, 2023
Lumpkin County Indians @ Temple Tigers
The Indians showed up on the defensive side of the ball as they shutout the Temple Tigers, 35-0, on their own turf. Everyone knows just how electric the Indians offense is, but their defense deserves some credit as they have allowed just seven points in the last eight quarters of play. Now stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Mason Sullens was once again unstoppable for the Indians as the talented back finished with 240 yards as he led the charge for the Lumpkin County offense. Lumpkin County would take a 14-0 lead into the halftime, but that wasn’t enough to satisfy the Indians as the beatdown continued with a 21-point second half. Lumpkin now sits at 3-0 on the year and looks to be the region favorites.
Team Notes
QB Cal Faulkner finished 5/8, 56 yards and a touchdown in the air while also adding another score and 48 yards on the ground. Sullens finished with 240 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries as the ball carrier continues his award-winning season. Sr. WR Luke Evans caught the lone touchdown pass from his QB. Sr. Hunter Davenport highlights a dominant defensive showing from the Indians as he finished with two interceptions and four tackles. Jr. Trent Mobley would lead the Indians defense with seven tackles. Even the special teams dominated as So. Returner Nolan Matthews recorded a 90-yard KR touchdown.
As for the Tigers, they were happy when the clock hit 0. They struggled on both sides of the ball, but the offense mustered only 134 yards. QB Jackson Gribben struggled to find open receivers as he finished just 6/13 for 69 yards and three interceptions. Sr. RB Jace Glenn led an abysmal ground game for Temple as he finished with just 22 yards on seven carries. Neither Maxpreps nor Hudl had individual defensive stats posted for the Tigers.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will look to rebound from their first loss of the season as they travel to take on the 0-3 Pepperell Dragons. As for the Indians, they look to extend the win streak another week as they host the 1-2 Hart County Bulldogs.
