Nolan Matthews Powers Lumpkin Over White County

Indians Storm Past White County With Second-Half Surge

The Lumpkin County Indians turned a tight first half into a runaway victory Friday night in Dahlonega, defeating rival White County 45–14. The win pushed Lumpkin to 4–2 on the season, while the Warriors dropped to 0–6.

White County came ready to battle, matching the Indians score for score in the first two quarters. At halftime, the game stood even at 14–14. But after the break, it was all Lumpkin County. The Indians erupted for 31 unanswered points, shutting out the Warriors the rest of the way.

Senior running back Nolan Matthews was the star of the night, carrying the ball 22 times for 277 yards and five touchdowns. Matthews averaged more than 12 yards per carry as the Indians leaned on their ground game to take control.

Quarterback Mason Hester kept the offense balanced, throwing for 180 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Martin Hulsey hauled in three catches for 59 yards and the lone receiving score, while juniors MacLane Powell and Colton Lee also made key plays in the passing game.

Defensively, Lumpkin dominated the line of scrimmage, recording five sacks and forcing two interceptions. Seniors Patrick Woody and River Kelley, along with junior Weston Veater, led the charge up front, combining for most of the team’s sacks.

By the final whistle, the Indians had racked up 450 total yards of offense, while their defense kept White County in check throughout the second half.

The victory gave Lumpkin its third straight home win and marked another step forward as the Indians move deeper into region play. White County, still searching for its first win of the year, will look to regroup before its next contest.
