Big fourth quarter gives Lady Indians victory against White Co.

The Lumpkin Co. Lady Indians (13-8, 4-5 Region 7-AAA) defended their home court Saturday night, Jan. 18, defeating the White Co. Lady Warriors (15-7, Region 7-4A) 53-35. Lumpkin Co. outscored White Co. 22-8 in the final quarter to seal the win.

Isabel Davenport led the way for the Lady Indians with 19 points, while Lexi Pierce and Kate Jackson each scored 12 points.

For the Lady Warriors, junior Maddie Futch had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while adding three deflections, two steals, and drawing a charge. Junior Dasha Cannon scored 10 points, added an assist, had two deflections, and three steals. Senior Ellie Gearing scored seven points, had four rebounds, two assists, three deflections, and two steals.

Lumpkin Co. jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter. They ended the period on an 8-2 run that gave them a 13-6 by the end of it.

White Co. fought back in the second quarter. They used a 7-2 run in the middle of the quarter to close the gap. The Lady Indians took an 18-16 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was another competitive one, and the score remained close. Lumpkin Co. was able to use a 9-0 run to take a 31-27 lead into the final period.

The Lady Indians took over in the fourth quarter to seal the win. They opened the quarter with back-to-back threes from Davenport and Jackson that started an 8-0 run. Lumpkin Co. went on to win 53-35.

The Lady Indians’ next game will be Tuesday as they host GAC.

The Lady Warriors play again on Tuesday at Flowery Branch high school.
