Mr. James “Jimmy” Patrick Rushford, age 51, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, November 22, 2019.

Jimmy was born in Norwich, CT on February 1, 1968.  He has lived in Dahlonega the last five years.  Jimmy was preceded in death by his father Rex Eugene Rushford.  He graduated from Teacher’s Memorial High School in Norwich, CT.  Jimmy was also a graduate of The International Lion’s Club in Ocala, FL.  He was an accomplished Special Olympian and avid WWE Wrestling fan.  His favorite wrestlers were John Cena and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Survivors include his mother Bernadette Schatz, Dahlonega; brothers Joseph R. Brierley, Dahlonega, Bruce Rushford, Ocala, FL, and Todd P. Missino, Dahlonega; sisters Cynthia R. Banckelant (Andrew), Dahlonega, and Laurie R. McClelan, Florida; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Jimmy’s wishes were to be cremated and a private memorial service will be held later.

Bazel Mayo: Obituary

Obituaries

Mr. Bazel Mayo, age 97, of Dahlonega passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019.

Mr. Mayo was born in Louisville, MS on July 29, 1922.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Ann Mayo, St. Augustine, FL; daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Ron Young, Dahlonega; sisters-in-law Willie Mae Davis and Velva Davis; grandchildren Scott and Angela Mayo; great-grandchildren Cole Mayo and Dale Keyt; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, December 16, 2019 at Davis Chapel Family Cemetery.  The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to TLC Humane Society, 1753 Red Oak Flats Road, Dahlonega, GA  30533 or to the Salvation Army, 711 Dorsey Street, Gainesville, GA  30501.

Talmadge “T.J.” Marion Powell: Obituary

Mr. Talmadge “T.J.” Marion Powell, age 56, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019.

T.J. was born in Alabama on December 25, 1962.  He is preceded in death by his father James Marion Powell and brother Johnny Chandler.  He was a self-employed carpenter.  T.J. enjoyed watching football and loved watching his son play basketball and baseball.

Survivors include his dearly beloved Carolyn Payne, Dawsonville; son Johnathon Powell, Dawsonville; daughter and son-in-law Kayla and Brandon Barbella, Cumming; mother and step father Shirley and Terry Parsons, Acworth; sister and brother-in-law Angie and Ron Burchert, Fayetteville; and sister Sheree Chandler, Woodstock.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, December 6, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Evangelist Melvin Reeves will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

George Luther Weatherby: Obituary

Obituaries

George Luther Weatherby, age 89, of Canton, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Canton Nursing Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2019 at Hopewell Baptist Church (Clayton Community) with Rev. Daryl Bailey and Rev. Michael McPherson officiating. Mr. Weatherby will lie-in-state at the church on Monday from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Sosebee Funeral Home.

Mr. Weatherby was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He worked for over 38 years in Education as a Educator, Administrator and former Superintendent for Lumpkin County Board of Education. Mr. Weatherby was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and most of all being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Weatherby; children, Donna England (Randy), Randy Weatherby (Kim) and Greg Weatherby (Susie); 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many special sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
