DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Dr. David Miller has never run for public office but he has been actively engaged in a number of county projects. He is a member of the Lumpkin County Comprehensive Plan Stakeholder Committee, Chamber of Commerce, Dahlonega Sunrise Rotary and an active member of Creekstone Church. He is also a former Chairman of the county’s Republican Party, Treasurer of the Friends of the Dahlonega Gold Museum and a local Scoutmaster.
But Miller says he is not too busy to take on one more responsibility, that of being the next District 1 representative on the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners.
Being actively involved in the community, he has developed a clear vision of what he wants to accomplish. “My vision for Lumpkin County includes “Smart Growth,” he said. “We want Lumpkin County to generate small to mid-sized, clean, micro-industry development that does not jeopardize our natural beauty and tourism industry. We must value our educational system to make Lumpkin County a great place to raise a family.”
As part of his smart growth plan, he said he would like to work with Northeast Georgia Hospital System and Chestatee Regional to develop a medical facility at the intersection of Hwy 60 and Ga. 400 where NGHS already owns 52 acres.
“Hospitals don’t just attract surgeons,” he said. “They also attract many support service jobs that pay $15 to $20 per hour.”
Miller certainly has the education and work experience to succeed. He is currently a Professor in the College of Business and Mass Communication at Brenau University and previously served on the medical school faculties of Emory University and the University of Pittsburgh as Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Cardiothoracic Surgery. In 2015, he was listed by the Atlanta Business Chronicle in “Who’s Who in Georgia Education.”
He and his wife Sue have been married for 30 years and have two children.
