Twenty-One Area Track Athletes Place at State

Of the 26 area track stars that qualified for state, 21 placed in the recent state meets.

The Georgia High School Association Girls State Meet was held in Albany May 5-7.

Jenna Gearing of White finished as state runner-up in two events. She finished the 1,600-meter run with a time of five minutes, 10 and 73-hundredths of a second (5:10.73) and the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:57.95.

Lauren Bentley of Gilmer took state runner-up in the high jump, leaping five feet, two inches (5’2″) to achieve the feat.

Olivia Moore of Pickens took state runner-up in the pole vault, reaching a height of 11′.

Emma Garrison of Union placed in two events. She finished state runner-up in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:21.68. Later, she took fourth place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:17.40.

Sydney Romine of Pickens claimed fourth place in the long jump, leaping 17′ 1 1/2″.

Julie Jacobs of Fannin finished fourth in the pole vault, reaching a height of 8’6″.

In the 3,200-meter run, Jaelan Alexander of White finished fifth with a time of 11:28.28 and Marley Hamby of Dawson placed seventh by posting a time of 12:14.74.

The discus throw saw Amanda Garner of Lumpkin take seventh place with a hurl of 93′ and Raven Sparks of Gilmer place eighth with a toss of 85′ 8″.

Kiernan Schmidt of White took eighth in the high jump, with a leap of 5′.

The GHSA Boys State Meet was then held May 12-14 in Jefferson.

Adam Ingram of Fannin placed third in the high jump, with a leap of 6′ 4″.

Sean Parker of Pickens took third in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 9:27.03 and sixth in the 1,600-meter run, with a time of 4:22.59.

Austin Pierce of Lumpkin placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, with a time of twenty-two and 13-hundredths of a second (22.13) and fifth in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 10.84.

Jacob Poston of Dawson finished fourth in the 800-meter dash, with a time of 1:57.87 and sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:22.24.

The White County pairing of Kaleb Crane, Jacob Sledge, Riley Barrett and Clancy Loudermilk took fourth in the 4×400 relay, with a time of 3:23.46.

Dalton Gasaway of Pickens finished fifth in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 49.07.

Kenny Eggerton of White finished sixth in the pole vault, reaching a height of 13′.
