Lumpkin Co. Lady Indians Honor America’s Veterans

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — As Lumpkin County’s varsity and junior varsity softball teams wind down the regular season and prepare for tournament play, they paused in between games against West Hall Wednesday to honor America’s veterans and raise funds for the nation’s wounded warriors.

Each year, the Lady Indians select a worthy charity. This year the teams have raised nearly $700 for the Wounded Warriors Project.

Between the varsity and junior varsity games Wednesday, members of the two teams escorted a veteran onto the field and released red, white and blue balloons in remembrance of those who have served our nation.

Honorees and escorts:

Kristen Woody escorted by Ga National Guard Specialist Austin Justice, Ansley Holman walked in memory of her great grandfather Otis Holman, a WWII veteran, Skyler Chester escorted by her grandfather David Franklin Seabolt retired USAF M. Sgt., Kyla Day, escorted by Brandy Day, US Army,  Misty Goodman escorted by Jacob Goodman US Navy Petty Officer, Victoria Mounce escorted by Joseph Robinson, US Army Airborne served in Desert Shield/Storm, Ansley Jarrard walked in memory of her great grandfather Elbert Jones a US Army veteran of WWII, Kadie Chambers walked in memory of her great uncle Lester Shelton, a highly decorated US Army veteran and POW in WWII, Raven Chester walked in memory of Emory Turpin US Navy veteran, Cassidy Kimmel was escorted by US Army Vietnam veteran, Isabelle Kinard escorted by Susan Wistoski in honor of her husband M. Sgt. Jason Wistoski US Army 5th Ranger Tng. Battalion, Lita Sills escorted by Debra Gilliam S. Sgt. USAF, Abby Hand escorted by her father Scott Hand US Army Sgt., Brighton Harder escorted by her grandfather Bob Bayster retired USAF veteran and walking in honor of her brother Trey Ware, a US Marine on active duty at Quantico, Va., Natalie Robinson escorted by Tinker Head US Army veteran, Anna Kate Wilson escorted by her cousin Eli Cash a Lance Corporal in the US Marines and Evee Dornhecker escorted by her father David Dornhecker retired US Army veteran. Madison Fields, Kayla Thomas, Hannah Pulley and Kaylon Sanford walked in memory of all fallen soldiers.
