Three Runners Finish in Top 10; UNG Finishes 2nd at Florida State Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of North Georgia cross country team provided another solid outing Friday morning at the Florida State Invitational, with three UNG runners finishing in the Top 10 and the Nighthawks finishing second overall as a team in the college division, with 44 points and an overall time of 1:37:33.60. Brittany Truitt, Emma Brown, and Makayla Ellis made the top 10 for UNG in its fourth and final 5K race of the year.

Montevallo took both the team title and individual honors with the Falcons’ Katie Nelson finishing at an amazing 18:07.0, more than 30 seconds ahead of her second place teammate. Truitt finished fourth overall in the division at 18:47.0, while Brown clocked a 19:31.8, for eighth place with Ellis right behind her at 19:33.3, in ninth individually.

Caitlin Connell was just seconds away from cracking the top 10 at 19:49.5, finishing 12th on the day. Sarah Buckler rounded out the team scoring for UNG crossing the line at 19:52.0, in 15th. Maria Coughlin and Emily Sims were just behind her coming in at 16th and 17th, respectively.

The Nighthawks will get next weekend off in preparation for the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Championship meet hosted by Georgia College in Milledgeville. The women’s race is set for a 9:45 a.m. start. The race will be streamed live by the PBC, with a link available on the UNG cross country schedule page.
