Lumpkin County 2017 Annual Budget meeting September 20, 2016

In the Public Hearing at 4pm the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a milage rate, which will require an increase in property taxes over the rollback rate by 14.33 percent in Unincorporated Lumpkin County, and 13.22 percent in incorporated Lumpkin County.

All concerned citizens were invited to three public hearings on this tax increase. The public hearings were held September 13, 2016 at 7 p.m., September 15, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. and September 20, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in the Boardroom of the Lumpkin County Administration Building, 99 Courthouse Hill, Dahlonega, Georgia.

During the Work Session of the meeting Jimmy Anderson was reappointed on the planning commission. Jessica Deadly then announced herself as the new county Executive Director of Community Helping Place Center and will be attending this year’s Leadership Lumpkin Class.

Furthermore, the Fire Chief believes that it should be his decision on what he does with his departments. However, the county manager and citizens have complained that no one is there at one of the stations and his decision was by operation fear of someone getting hurt. Steve Shaw claimed he was unsure where danger is.

Stan Kelley board was told by a citizen if there was a man at that station it would not have taken two children’s lives at mill creek. We have a responsibility but do not have the resources to provide extra staff claims the fire chief. Those children were already gone according to the Chief. The smoke would have got them before the fire and the fire was already through the house. If expecting one firefighter to handle it would be negligence and held up in court Stan Kelley.

November is when approval to get the chief to make his own decisions. I cannot tell you where Bob Pullen. Due to safety issues we will have to wait till November and then focus on the safety issue.
