Men’s Soccer Holds On for 1-0 Win at Georgia Southwestern
AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia men’s soccer team made a first half penalty kick conversion hold up as the Nighthawks downed Georgia Southwestern, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field. UNG advances to 8-8 on the year with a 5-2 mark in the Peach Belt Conference.
The lone score of the day came in the 38-th minute as UNG took advantage of a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Adam Farrell converted the opportunity into the score to give the Nighthawks the eventual game-winner.
NOTES
– UNG was outshot in the contest 21-20, but held a 9-8 advantage over GSW in shots on goal.
– Both goalkeepers tallied eight saves on the day.
– UNG improves to 12-1 all-time against Georgia Southwestern, however three of the last four contests have been decided by just one goal.

The Nighthawks head to the Tar Heel State on Saturday, Oct. 22 for a match against UNC Pembroke. Kickoff is set for 10:30 a.m.
Seven Nighthawks Score as Women’s Soccer Dominates Georgia Southwestern, 8-0
AMERICUS, Ga. – The 12th-ranked University of North Georgia women’s soccer team made quick work of Georgia Southwestern Wednesday afternoon at Hurricane Field, scoring the game-winning goal in the opening five minutes of the match on the way to an 8-0 victory. The Nighthawks improve to 10-1-2 on the season with a 7-1-1 record in the Peach Belt Conference.
Rachel VanHorn once again led the Nighthawk attack with the first goal of the match in the 5th minute as the forward took advantage of a scramble in front of the goal and put her shot over the keeper to give UNG the early lead. Mollie Arrendale netted her second goal of the season in the 12th as she headed in a cross from Megan Gil. Alex Bowen joined the fun in the 34th scoring off a corner kick from Rosie Embley, to give North Georgia the 3-0 that it would take into halftime.
The Nighthawks doubled their lead early in the second half scoring three goals in a span of just over three minutes with Jacy Ramey finding the back of the net in the 51st, Michaela Sundstrom scoring in the 52nd, and Jessica Allen joining the club in the 54th to give UNG a 6-0 lead. Rachel VanHorn added another goal in the 62nd minute on a breakaway and Daizah Pattersonscored the eighth and final goal of the game off a Brynn Finneran corner kick in the 83rd.
NOTES
– Today marks Rachel VanHorn‘s fifth multi-goal match of the season and her fourth in the past five contests. VanHorn leads the PBC in most goals (14) by six and most points (31) by seven.
– North Georgia moves to 13-0 all-time against Georgia Southwestern with today’s win. UNG has outscored the Hurricanes 50-1 in their past five meetings.
– As the Nighthawks hit the 10-win mark today, 2016 becomes the eighth consecutive season that North Georgia has reached double-digits in victories.
STAT OF THE DAY
38-3 – UNG outshot Georgia Southwestern 38-3 on the day with a 24-2 advantage in shots on goal.
NEXT UP
The Nighthawks head to the Tar Heel State on Saturday, Oct. 22 for a match against UNC Pembroke, the only remaining program with a perfect conference record in the PBC at 6-0-0. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
