No. 19 Rifle Wins First-Ever SoCon Event at UNG
Business October 26, 2016DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The 19th-ranked University of North Georgia rifle team didn’t disappoint in hosting their first-ever Southern Conference rifle event this weekend, placing fourth against five different squads from throughout the SoCon. The Nighthawks posted a 2260 in smallbore and 2315 in air rifle for an aggregate 4575 good enough to edge both the mixed and women’s squads from The Citadel, along with Georgia Southern and Alabama-Birmingham.
Dakota Spivey was the top individual in the event with an aggregate score of 1156. In all, UNG placed six individuals in the top 10 including Ruthanne Conner, Andrew Abernathy, Tobin Sanctuary, Jared Rice, and David Turner.
SMALLBORE
Ruthanne Conner led the way for UNG in smallbore shooting a 568. Andrew Abernathy and Tobin Sanctuary were not far behind each firing a 565, a new personal record for Sanctuary in smallbore.
AIR RIFLE
Dakota Spivey improved upon the school record that he set against Kentucky two weeks ago by shooting a 594 this weekend. Conner followed with a 581 with David Turner coming in third for the Nighthawks in air rifle with a 577.
