No. 19 Women’s Soccer Takes Down Armstrong State in Thrilling Road Win
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior Jacy Ramey headed in the game-winning goal off a corner kick from fellow senior Molly Arrendale in the 57th minute to give the University of North Georgia women’s soccer team its biggest win of the season, 1-0, at Armstrong State Sunday afternoon in Savannah. With the victory the Nighthawks claim their third consecutive second place finish in the Peach Belt Conference at 9-1-2 in the league.
In a match that was defined by great defense and solid play by each goalkeeper, it was Ramey finding the goal that made the difference in the second half after UNG earned its second corner kick of the match. Arrendale launched the ball long with Ramey’s header sneaking inside the far post to give UNG the 1-0 lead the held up.
After the match all eyes turned to Young Harris, as the Mountain Lions and UNC Pembroke, both of whom entered the day with a possibility of finishing in second place, went to overtime scoreless. Just as it looked like the match would end in a scoreless tie and hand UNG sole possession of second place, the Braves found a breakaway goal in the 110th minute, with just 40 seconds remaining on the clock. The UNCP victory pulled them back into a tie with North Georgia in second place, and by way of the second tiebreaker-record versus highest ranked team in the conference-the Braves snatched the No. 2-seed in the PBC Tournament bumping UNG down to the three-seed.
NOTES
– UNG keeper Hannah Goudy (6-0-2) earned the victory in goal for the Nighthawks with five saves in the match, the second most in her career.
– With her goal today, Jacy Ramey has now scored in five consecutive matches, the longest streak of her four-year career in Dahlonega.
– UNG was outshot by Armstrong, 18-11, on the day. It is just the second time this season that an opponent has outshot UNG. It marks the first time that North Georgia has won a match in which it was outshot since Oct. 23, 2013, when UNG defeated Columbus State on the road, 3-2, after being outshot 17-14.

The Nighthawks will host No. 6-seed Flagler in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 2. Kickoff for the match will be set later today.
Men’s Soccer to Host USC Aiken Tuesday in PBC Quarterfinal
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference released the 2016 PBC Men’s Soccer Tournament Bracket Saturday evening following the completion of regular season play. The University of North Georgia men’s soccer team, which recorded its best finish in the league since joining the PBC in 2005, will be the second-seed in the eight-team tournament.
The Nighthawks will host No. 7-seed USC Aiken on Tuesday, Nov. 1 in Dahlonega. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., at the UNG Soccer Complex. As with all regular season matches, live stats and a broadcast by the Nighthawk Sports Network will be available at no cost for fans unable to attend the match in person.

The winner of the match will advance to the second semifinal match at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia, facing the winner of the Young Harris-Montevallo quarterfinal. Kickoff for that match is set for 2 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 4.
