COLUMBUS, Ga. – Freshman Karson Stone set a new 36-hole school record, claiming the individual medalist honors and helping the University of North Georgia women’s golf team to a second place at the 2017 Lady Cougar Classic hosted by Columbus State at the Country Club of Columbus. The second place finish is the highest in tournament play for the UNG women since the 2014 UNG Chick-fil-a Spring Invitational at Achasta.

USC Beaufort posted an impressive 312 in the second round to take the tournament crown with the low score of 317-312-629, seven strokes better than UNG. The Nighthawks posted a 323 on the day, 10 shots higher than Monday’s low round of 313.

Stone once again led the UNG effort with a 76, the third lowest score carded on Tuesday. Her 70-76-146 is a new UNG 36-hole record. Jordan Sims followed with a 79 to finish the tournament tied for sixth individually with a 78-79-157. Taylor Allen saw the biggest improvement on the day for UNG with a second round-83. Anna Greer rounded out the team score with a 79-85-164.

North Georgia returns to the links next week, traveling to Savannah for the Armstrong State Lady Pirate Invitational hosted at Savannah Quarters Country Club.
