No. 7 Baseball Takes Down Anderson, 7-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – The seventh-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team cruised past Anderson (S.C.), 7-1, Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium after scoring four runs in the first three innings. The Nighthawks improve to 13-4 on the season with the midweek road win.

Devin Gearhart led off the game with a triple to center field and came in to score just moments later on a wild pitch. The Nighthawks tacked on another run in the second with a two-out RBI single down the left field line by Kal Dempsey to plate Connor Corbitt all the way from first. UNG would add two more in the top of the third highlighted by an RBI double to left center by Michael Gouge.

Dempsey would knock in another run in the sixth and the Nighthawks went on to score two more in the seventh including Michael Bell‘s second RBI of the night to take a 7-0 lead.

Anderson’s Stephen McKnight hit the only home run of the game in the eighth to give the game its final score, 7-1.

NOTES
– Junior Gabe Moore (1-0) picked up his first win as Nighthawk in what was also his first start for UNG. Moore tossed five innings of shutout ball, allowing just three hits with four strikeouts all without issuing a free pass.

Devin Gearhart and Joshua Peterson each hit a triple in the game. It marks the first-time UNG has hit multiple triples in a game since Eason Spivey and Joey Cecere both tripled against Truett McConnell on April 8, 2014.

– North Georgia improves to 28-5 all-time against Anderson and currently have the series’ longest win streak, having won the last 10 straight games over the Trojans. Anderson will make a return trip to Dahlonega on Wednesday, April 12.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks return home to the friendly confines of Bob Stein Stadium this weekend hosting Armstrong State in their PBC home opener with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. Saturday’s twin bill – the first of just two at home this year – is set for a 1 p.m., start.
