Lumpkin County Companies Looking for Employees

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Need a job? Head to Lumpkin County where there appears to be more jobs than people who want them.

Speaking at Tuesday’s Lumpkin County Development Authority meeting, State Rep. Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega) said, “Just about every employer I’ve talked to has jobs. Arcadia Louvered Roofs, Wahoo Docks, Refrigiware all these companies are looking for employees and can’t seem to find candidates. Hopefully the job fair will take care of that.”

The job fair Gooch referred to is the Spring Career Expo scheduled for April 11 from 1-4 p.m. at the Lumpkin County Parks and Recreation Department, 365 Riley Road in Dahlonega. The event is being sponsored by the Geogia Department of Labor (GDOL), Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber and Visitors Bureau, Development Authority and Parks and Recreation Department.

In January, the Labor Department reported that Lumpkin County’s unemployment rate was 4.8 percent. 15,163 county residents had jobs and only 767 of those seeking jobs remained unemployed.

The numbers were comparable to neighboring White County where there was 5 percent unemployment in January with 13, 727 residents employed and 717 unemployed. Dawson County’s unemployment rate to start the year was also 4.8 percent with 10,962 residents having jobs and only 521 unemployed.
