DAHLONEGA, Ga. – On May 7, Lumpkin County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 22-year-old James Stewart and charged him with aggravated assault, simple battery and making terroristic threats.
According to the arrest report, deputy Jeremy Craig was dispatched to 219 Myers Chance Road where he witnessed Stewart assaulting Kessalyn Grizzle, 22, by holding her hair and striking her in the face while she was crying and begging him not to hurt her anymore. Craig ordered him to get off her and get on the ground. Stewart stood up but refused to comply with Craig’s demand and shouted an obscenity.
Sgt. Simpson arrived and told Craig to go to another room and interview the others while he talked to James.
Grizzle said they were drinking and James became angry and started to yell at everyone. He then grabbed her by her neck and threatened to kill her and asked if she wanted him to make her kids motherless. James then took her outside and grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground and told her he was going to break her neck.
The other witnesses, Landon Grizzle, 44, and Natesha Bagwell, 20, said they had been drinking when James became angry and went after Natesha but she moved and he went after Kessalyn instead.
Sgt, Simpson advised James he was under arrest and he was transported to the Lumpkin County Detention Center. While there it was determined his alcohol content was greater than allowed so he was taken to Chestatee Regional Hospital where he became combative with the staff and attempted to damage hospital equipment. Simpson then spit on another deputy and was placed in soft restraints. After more than five hours he was transported back to the detention center.
