Mr. Hershel Darrell Mooney: Obituary

Mr. Hershel Darrell Mooney, age 88, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, September 29, 2017.

Mr. Mooney was a native and lifetime resident of Lumpkin County.  He was born on September 20, 1929 to the late Luther and Sally Arrendale Mooney.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Mooney; sisters, Mona Tanner, Blanche Mooney, and Grace Harkins; brothers, Homer Mooney and Hoyt Mooney. Mr. Mooney had love for gardening and traveling.  He has visited every state but 4 in the United States.  Mr. Mooney’s favorite place to visit was the Redwood Forest in Northern California. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include several brothers in law and sisters in law and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel.  The Rev. Charles Grant and The Rev. Rodney Pilcher will officiate.  Interment will follow in Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4-8 P.M. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the funeral home.
