Winter weather advisory in effect

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Welcome to 2018. It’s snowing across many north Georgia counties.

The National Weather Service at Peachtree City has issued an urgent winter weather message, which includes the following counties: Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Chattooga, Gordon, Pickens, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Polk, Paulding, Cobb, Haralson, Carroll and Douglas.

A wind chill advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. and will resume at 7 p.m. and continue through 10 a.m. Tuesday.

* WHAT…Very cold wind chills expected. The cold wind chills  will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.  Expect wind chills to range from 5 above zero to 5 below zero.

* WHERE…Portions of north Georgia, generally along and north of a line from Carrollton to Canton to Cleveland.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS….Low temperatures will drop to 5 to 15 this morning and again Tuesday morning. Winds will be north 5 to 15  mph with a few higher gusts.
