DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners adopted the 2019 budget and approved the rollback millage rate during Tuesday’s voting session. Commissioner Rhett Stringer voted no on both.
The approved budget is $21,807,984. The millage rate is 11.053 mills for property in the unincorporated areas of Lumpkin County, 13.186 mills for property in the incorporated areas of Dahlonega, 0.280 for property in the Lumpkin County Reservoir District and 0.219 for property in the Lumpkin County Planning Department Tax District.
Public Safety is budgeted to receive $9,654,235 which is only a slight increase of about $23,000 over last year. General Government operations is budgeted for $4,390,547 about $300,000 less than a year ago. Public Works receives the next largest $1,725,070, an increase of about $260,000 above 2018.
Commissioners honored some very special achievements at Tuesday’s meeting.
They unanimously agreed rename the intersection of Camp Frank D. Merrill and Wahsega Road the Michael J. Ramsey intersection in honor of the legendary retired U.S. Army First Sergeant who was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame and inspired thousands of young Rangers before retiring in 1994 and embarking on a career in law enforcement with Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. Ramsey rose to the rank of Chief Deputy before retiring earlier this year.
Commissioners also honored the Lumpkin County Indians 8-and-under baseball team that posted a 17-4 record this year and capped a successful season by beating Peachtree City in the Southeastern World Series. The Board proclaimed Aug. 21 as Lumpkin County Indians 8-and-under Baseball Team Day.
