BREAKING: Fatal motor vehicle accident in Lumpkin County

Georgia State Patrol has confirmed one fatality as a result of a two-vehicle accident on highway US-129 North, one mile from the Lumpkin/Union County line. The wreck occurred when the driver of the motorcycle swerved across the yellow lines into on coming traffic. Details to follow. According to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, the road has been shut down, and drivers are advised to take an alternate route, “Please take an alternate route when traveling this area. Please keep all involved in your prayers.”

On 8/28/18 at approximately 1512 hours, there was a two vehicle crash on SR 11 near MM 9 in Lumpkin County. Vehicle 1 was traveling north on SR 11. Vehicle 2 was traveling south on SR 11. Driver 1 was traveling too fast for conditions and failed to maintain his lane. Driver 1 lost control of his vehicle and the vehicle traveled on its right side into the southbound lane of SR 11. Vehicle 2 struck vehicle 1 with the front of vehicle 2.

Vehicle 1, a green Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a Mr. Matthew Cohen of Alpharetta, Georgia traveled too fast for conditions (sharp curves) and traveled into the opposite lane of travel.
