CENTRAL, S.C. — A brace from Jack Newhouse in the second half was the difference as the University of North Georgia men’s soccer team snapped a four-match losing skid with a 4-2 win over Southern Wesleyan Wednesday night.

Donovan Odier got North Georgia on the board first in the 11th minute, taking a pass from Eren Ozer and putting it in the net, but SWU answered five minutes later with a goal from Miguel Gallegos to tie the game, 1-1.

Ozer retook the lead for the Nighthawks in the 29th minute, but again the Warriors responded with a goal from Alex Olson in the 40th minute to send the match to halftime at a 2-2 draw.

From there, Newhouse took over, scoring in the 59th and 89th minutes to give UNG the two goal advantage.

  • NOTES
Newhouse and Ozer each had five shots on the night, four of which for each player were on target. SWU’s Gallegos led the Warriors with nine of their 14 shots.
  • The Nighthawks earned six corners in the match and gave up just three.
  • The four goals by UNG was the most scored by a single team in the all-time series since North Georgia scored five in the first meeting back in 2001. The six goals total is also the most since that 2001 meeting.

NEXT UP
North Georgia will wrap up the three-match road trip at Montevallo Saturday at 5 p.m.
