DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Dahlonega City Council is expected to consider an agreement with the Dahlonega-Lumpkin Chamber of Commerce that could award $250,000 in restricted funds to be used exclusively for tourism development services when it meets in a combined called meeting and work session Thursday (Dec.19)

The funding would come from the city’s collection of the hotel-motel tax. Council members will also discuss charging the Chamber rent of $500 per month for use of the City’s portion of the joint City/County Building

Council is also expected to approve a contract with Cedar Farms & Construction for the rehabilitation of the Achasta Lift Station in the amount of $424,659. .

Staff has recommended spending $295,000 in TSPLOST funds to make improvements at Wimpy Mill Picnic Area and the pedestrian bridge. Staff says it can leverage $135,000 in state funding for the project.

Other bids the city could award Thursday include:

The purchase of a Ford F-750 Dump Truck from Nextran Truck Centers in the amount of $84,219;

The purchase of a Ford F-350 cab and chassis from Wade Ford, Inc. in the amount of $31,742;

The purchase of a Ford F-550 with Knapheide Forestry Body to Wade Ford in the amount of  $69,452.00

The city is also expected to enter into a professional services agreement with Jarrard Water Services, Inc. for key services to be performed for the City’s reservoir, dam, water treatment plant, storage tanks, sewage lift stations, and waste water treatment plant.

John Jarrard, the principal of the firm, has performed these services well for the City  for several years and desires to terminate full-time employment with the City December 31, 2019 in order to spend more time with his family. The agreement is for part time consulting services, is annually renewable, and will assure continued operational excellence and training of the next generation of supervisors and operators.
