PRESS RELEASE – The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media to make people aware of the phone scam that has been going around Lumpkin County specifically. Sheriff Stacy Jarrard issued the following statement.

I would like to bring to everyone’s attention that the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a Phone Scam that is ongoing. This particular Phone Scam hits close to home since it is someone saying they are an employee of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. As far as we have been made aware of this caller has been calling a specific group, health care providers, within our community saying that the health care provider needs to take care of a serious law enforcement matter by paying money to avoid arrest. Please understand this is not how Law Enforcement Operates requesting money by phone to pay off warrants before the person is arrested. If you receive one of these calls please hang up, it is not us. However, if you want, you can call the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office at 706-864-0414 and ask for the employee that is supposed to be calling you or call the non-emergency dispatch number at 706-864-3633 and ask the dispatcher to inquire for you if someone is looking for you.

Thank You!

Sheriff Stacy M. Jarrard
