ATLANTA, GA (April 30, 2025) The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), also known as Georgia’s County Association, recently honored Lumpkin County Chairman Chris Dockery with the 2025 Emory Greene Leadership Award during the Association’s 2025 Annual Conference in Chatham County.  Part of the annual ACCG Awards and Recognition Program, the Emory Greene Leadership Award is the highest honor bestowed by ACCG.

“The ACCG Awards & Recognition Program honors individuals whose leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping Georgia’s counties,” said Executive Director Dave Wills. “This year’s recipients are a testament to the dynamic, strong leaders such as Chairman Dockery who serve their communities with commitment and honor.”

Chairman Dockery was honored with the Emory Greene Leadership award in recognition of his exemplary service and leadership since assuming office in 2013. Under his guidance, the county has made significant strides, including the implementation ofTSPLOST and SPLOST programs to address critical infrastructure needs. He was instrumental in controlling the millage rate while maintaining the county’s recommended fund balance and securingthe second-largest broadband grant in Georgia. Chairman Dockery’s leadership reflects a deep commitment to fiscal responsibility and a clear understanding of the impact of economicstability in local communities. His dedication extends beyond county lines through his active engagement in ACCG, where he has chaired various policy committees, served on the Insurance Board of Trustees, and currently represents the Northeast district on the Board of Managers. He also understands the importance of working closely with surrounding counties and taking a regional approach to issues when necessary.

“While I’m both humbled and honored to be recognized by my peers, as a servant leader, I always strive to prioritize the needs of our community above personal accolades. Theseaccomplishments are a reflection of an engaged and hardworking Board of Commissioners and a competent and capable staff,” Dockery said.

The Emory Greene Leadership Award was created in 1990. It is named in honor of the late Emory Greene, Chairman of the Bibb County Board of Commissioners and former ACCG President, who was not only an outstanding leader in his home county but a statewide leader who served on several boards and commissions. The Emory Greene Leadership Award recognizes a county commissioner who has made significant contributions in the local community and at the state level.

ACCG is Georgia’s county association and works on behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs that specialize in local government needs and other cost-saving programs.  Formed in 1914 when county officials came together to help fund the state’s first highway department, ACCG today serves as a catalyst for advancing Georgia’s counties.  For more information, go to www.accg.org.
