Lumpkin County Voters Head to Polls for Primary and Local Elections

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Voters across Lumpkin County are heading to the polls Today for Georgia’s May 19, 2026 General Primary and Nonpartisan Election, with several local races and statewide contests appearing on ballots throughout the county.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. Election officials said voters who are in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to cast a ballot.

Election Day voting in Lumpkin County is taking place at the Lumpkin County Parks and Recreation Center.

Among the most closely watched local races are contests for the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners chairperson seat and multiple Lumpkin County Board of Education positions.

The race for Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners chairperson features Katherine James and Rhett Stringer.

Several Board of Education seats are also on the ballot Tuesday.

Candidates running for the District 2 Board of Education seat include Lee Adkins, Taylor Gilleland, Kevin Herrit, and incumbent Craig Poore.

The District 4 Board of Education race includes Ronna Anderson and Stephen Mulkey.

In addition to local races, Lumpkin County voters are also casting ballots in statewide primary contests for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, Public Service Commission, and judicial offices, including Georgia Supreme Court races.

Voters can verify their polling location and review sample ballots through Georgia’s My Voter Page system or through the Lumpkin County Elections & Registration Office.
