AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of North Georgia freshman pitcher Kylee Smith has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Smith is the first Nighthawk to receive a weekly award this season.
The Suwanee native went 3-0 for the Nighthawks over the weekend, striking out 24 in 17 innings of work with a 1.65 earned run average. Smith opened up with a two-hit performance in a 9-1 win over Mars Hill, striking out 12 in six innings of work. The freshman followed that with six strikeouts and one earned run against West Georgia and six more strikeouts with four hits allowed in a second meeting with Mars Hill.
Smith gave up only 12 hits in total with seven walks at the Steak ‘n Shake Classic. She currently leads the PBC in both strikeouts and wins.
