Katy Ruth Wells O’Neal

In memory of Katy Ruth Wells O’Neal, age 95, of Cumming, Georgia entered into eternal life Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Mrs. O’Neal was born on March 16, 1924, in Royston, Georgia to the late Jesse L. Wells and Cordelia Winn Wells. She was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and a resident for many years at Gracemont Assisted Living in Cumming, Georgia. Ruth retired from Sears & Roebuck after 20 years in the credit department. She was known for her love for people and her hospitality. Mrs. O’Neal was preceded in death by her husband Ralph J. O’Neal, son, Ronald Wells O’Neal, grandson, Craig Preston O’Neal, brother, J. C. Wells, and sisters, Irene Jones, Sarah Wread, Dot Pece, and Francis Harvey. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Terrie O’Neal, of Cleveland, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Carol Bryant O’Neal, of Cumming, Georgia; former daughter-in-law Alana Cuthbertson O’Neal , of Temple, GA; sisters, Winnie Lowrey, Evelyn Burry, and Charlotte Long; grandchildren, Michael and Gina O’Neal, and Kathryn and Paul Rapalee; two great grandchildren, Stephen Rapalee and Nichole Rapalee, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 AM til the funeral service at 12:00 noon in the Dahlonega Chapel of McDonald Family Funeral Homes, 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, Georgia 30533. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA 30349. Mr. Gaines “Ro” Etheridge, age 86, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019.

Mr. Etheridge was born in Uriah, Alabama on January 27,1933 to the late John Roan and Ethel Wilson Etheridge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Thompson Etheridge, brothers Ralph Etheridge, and Lamar Etheridge, sisters Jewell Lowery, Mary Nell Norsworthy, Hazel Phillips, and Helen Sargent. Mr. Etheridge was of the Baptist Faith. He was retired from Prime Pump. Mr. Etheridge was affectionately called “Pa” by his family. He loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his children Kenneth R. and Reatha Etheridge, Suches, Teresa Turner and Byron Blackburn, Dahlonega, Keith E. and Denise Etheridge, Dahlonega, and Margaret Etheridge, Murrayville; brother and sister-in-law Johnny Steve and Vera Etheridge, Dahlonega; sister Thelma Phillips, Alabama; sister and brother-in-law Margie and Richard Bohr, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell and the Rev. Daniel Etheridge will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruth Ward, age 88, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, May 17, 2019.

Mrs. Ward was born in Fannin County on June 5, 1930 to the late William and Nancy Kendall Hughes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Freeman Ward, sisters Chloe Culley, Odell Hicks, Dean Dean, and Owa Allen. Mrs. Ward retired from Pinetree/Burlington Industries with 36 years of dedicated work. She was a member of Sugar Hill Baptist Church in Fannin County and she attended Philippi Baptist Church. Mrs. Ward was deeply loved by her family and her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Granny Ruth”. She loved quilting and bird watching. When her health allowed, Mrs. Ward loved gardening.

Survivors include her children Roger and Shirley Ward, and Charles Randall “Randy” and Joanne Ward, all of Dahlonega; grandchildren Lisa and Clark Rider and Michelle and Shane Whitehead; great-grandchildren Chelseay and Chris Frith, and Avery Whitehead; great-great-grandson Austin Frith; and brother Clyde Hughes.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Jason Fuller will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jerry W. Boatfield, age 82, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Mr. Boatfield was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on February 9, 1937 to the late Paul and Loudelle Moose Boatfield. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Michael Boatfield, sisters Marginia Grizzle and Fannie Dye, brothers Louie Boatfield and David Boatfield. Mr. Boatfield retired from the Wimpy Mill Road Water Plant. He was a member of Cherry Log Baptist Church. Mr. Boatfield loved to take trips to the beach and see the ocean. He was affectionately called “Pop” by his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Shirley Boatfield; daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Lewis Smith; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Sherry Boatfield; son Robert Boatfield; grandchildren Kimberly Sutton, and Alisha and Mitchell Garrett; great-grandchildren Paigelynn Morris, Allen Morris, Lilly Garrett, and Maddie Garrett, all of Dahlonega; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, May 20, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Phillip Robinson and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Mrs. Anna Lou Truelove, age 83, of Clermont passed away Monday, May 13, 2019.

Mrs. Truelove was born in White County on September 19, 1935 to the late John William and Alice Eliza Crow Fortner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son David Truelove, siblings Henley Fortner, Fannie Lance, Billy Fortner, Grover Fortner, Clyde Fortner, Claud Fortner, Raleigh Fortner, Ben Fortner, and Charlie Fortner. Mrs. Truelove was a member of Cavender Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Jimmy Truelove, Clermont; daughter-in-law Joy Truelove, Archer, FL; grandchildren Crystal and Chris Jansen, Williston, FL, and Davina Truelove, Orlando, FL; brother and sister-in-law Jack and Joyce Fortner, Dahlonega; sister-in-law Joan Gilbert, Clermont;sister-in-law Liza Fortner; niece Lois Smith, Murrayville; great-grandchildren Colby Jansen and Colton Jansen.

Mrs. Jo D Carder, age 90, of Dahlonega went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her beloved family on Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Mrs. Carder was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born on January 2, 1929 to the late William and Harriett Abercrombie McClure. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Nathaniel Carder and brother James A. McClure. Mrs. Carder was the oldest living member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was a strong and loving mother having raised up four daughters all in the same way. Mrs. Carder was affectionately called grandmother by her grandchildren. She loved living on the farm she grew up on.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Ann Carder and Tracy Grizzle, Dahlonega, Mary Jo and Russell Hester, Cleveland, Deborah and Ronald Couch, Clermont, and Gayle and Wayne White, Gainesville; sister Irene Hinson, Columbia, SC; sister-in-law Shirley McClure, Dahlonega; grandchildren Mike Smith and Dixie Truelove, David and Beth Smith, Lori Smith Baker, Jeremy Walters, DeEnna Walters, Jason and Stacie Couch, Amanda and Shane Grier, Matt and Catherine White, Courtney White and Daniel Byrnes, Laketa and Mike Cathey, and Katrina Hester and Joel Dockery; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cora Kathleen Fitts, age 91, of Dahlonega passed away May 9, 2019.

Mrs. Fitts was born in Union County on January 9, 1928 to the late Homer and Mabel Wilkins Gooch. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Fitts; sister Blondene Bryan; brothers Glen Gooch, William Gooch, Tom Gooch, Ervin Gooch, and Ned Gooch.

Mrs. Fitts retired from Burlington Pine Tree Plant after thirty years of service as a spinner operator. She was a volunteer at the Lumpkin County Senior Center and enjoyed gardening, quilting and canning. Mrs. Fitts was a member of The Fountain Church of God of Prophecy in Dahlonega. She was affectionately known as “Mema”.

Mrs. Fitts is survived by her daughter Betty Fitts, Dahlonega; son Ralph E. “Buzz” Fitts, Dahlonega; sisters Inez Crook of Jackson, Clara Kidd of Gainesville, Mary Ann Mayfield of Buckhead, and Sandra Bailey of McDonough.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Reverend Bo Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
