UNG softball throws no-hitters during Florida Tech Invitational

According to the University of North Georgia Athletics Department, No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team swept the final day of the Florida Tech Invitational, knocking off Lynn and Converse Sunday as sophomore, Kylee Smith, tossed a no-hitter in game one.
UNG freshman, Kaylee Womack, kicked off the scoring with a single that scored Hobby Gregory in the first inning. Hobby later hit a double that plated sophomore, Alishia Frierson, and UNG added another as Junior, Kelly Kahlert, sprinted home on a Knight error to make the score 3-0 in the fourth.
The Nighthawks doubled their lead in the second inning on a two-run blast by freshman, Adella Carver, before scoring the final two runs of the game in the fifth. Kahlert stole home after moving to third on a bunt by sophomore, Cheyanne Mosteller. Anthony pushed Mosteller across for the game’s final run on a double to left center.

UNG junior breaks record for career steals-mark

DAHLONEGA, GA
According to a press release from the University of North Georgia Athletics Department, Ephraim Tshimanga broke the UNG career steals-mark, as the University of North Georgia men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season over Erskine, 89-64.
Tshimanga had six steals on the night, breaking the record held by former UNG point-guard Travis Core, who now has 113 career steals.
North Georgia jumped out quickly against the Flying Fleet, scoring the first 11 points of the contest to take the lead for good. The Nighthawks led by as many as 31 points en route to the 25 point win.

UNG women’s soccer seniors announced to All-Peach Belt Conference team

AUGUSTA, Ga. –
According to the University of North Georgia Athletics Department, UNG women’s soccer seniors Renee VanHorn and Asa Thorsen were picked to the All-Peach Belt Conference First Team. The announcement was made at the tournament banquet on Thursday night.
VanHorn finished in fourth place in the league with 12 goals on the season. She added three assists as well to total 27 points. Six of her 12 goals were game winners.
Thorsen put two goals in the back of the net and assisted on three others this season as a key player in the midfield for the Nighthawks. VanHorn and Thorsen were two of just four players on UNG’s side to play and start in all 16 matches this season.

Lumpkin County class of 2018 ranks top 25 in ACT scores

In a press release submitted by Lumpkin County School Superintendient, Dr. Rob Brown, the Lumpkin County class of 2018, “outperformed all other Pioneer RESA districts ” on the ACT test.
LCHS class of 2018 earned a composite score of, 21.7, exceeding the national average score of 20.57. Out of all of the districts in the state of Georgia, Lumpkin County ranked 13th, putting them in the top 25 district scores of 2018.
Lumpkin County Superintendient, Dr. Rob Brown, stated in regards to the outstanding performance that, ““We are extremely proud of our high school and the outstanding performance of our students. We have amazing educators at LCHS who push all students to reach their full potential. Although ACT scores are usually tied to a high school, this score is a reflection of our entire school system and the great work teachers in ALL of our schools do each day. Despite being a district that spends fewer dollars per student than most districts in our RESA, we are performing at the top. And we are proud of that!”
The American College Testing (ACT) is a standardized test that records general educational development of high school students.

Megan Sabol tied for third in top five finish

A press release from the University of North Georgia Athletics Department explained that UNG junior, Megan Sabol, is now tied for third place after the UNG women’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational at the Country Club of Salisbury held on Tuesday.
Sabol scored a one-under 71, and the Nighthawks broke the single round scoring record by eight strokes in the final round with a two-over 290.
Sabol’s two-under 142 put her in a tie for third and All-Tournament honors, as well as the second best 36-hole score in program history. She finished two strokes behind Lenoir-Rhyne’s Abbey Hartsell for the lead. Sabol finished with eight birdies in the event, including birdieing three of the four par fives on the course in the final round.
The Nighthawks posted a 596 in the event, which is the best 36-hole score in program history, beating the Battle at Old South result from earlier this season by five strokes.
Jordyn Sims also scored, with a two-under round of 70, which tied her for second all-time in a single round with Sabol and Karson Stone. Sims had three birdies in Tuesday’s round to improve 11 strokes from the first to the second round.
