Mrs. Joyce Carolyn Head, age 73, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Joyce was born in Lumpkin County on May 28, 1946 to the late Robert James and Hattie Lucille Reeves.  She had retired from the University of North Georgia after many years of dedicated work.  Joyce lived life to the fullest and sung with all of her heart.  Her voice will continue to be held in the ears and hearts of her family and friends.  Joyce’s favorite pastimes were playing bingo and going to the beach.  She was a loving wife and mother.  Joyce was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Richard Head; step-daughter Nicole Head; step-son Jody Head; grandchildren Austin, Kaitlyn, James, Dakota and Cameron; sister Mildred Norrell; sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Johnny Rider; brothers and sisters-in-law Bobby Reeves and Debra Wimpy, and Melvin and Joy Reeves; sister and brother-in-law Glenda and Eddie Palmer, all of Dahlonega; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Debra “Debbie” Ann Anderson, age 61, of Cartserville, Georgia, passed away on January 25, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband: Roy Keith Anderson; Parents, Paul D. and Willie J. Hunsinger; sister: Brenda Brown; brother: Tommy Hunsinger; good friend: Mary Jennings; and “Ben Ben.”

Debbie Ann is survived by her daughters: Juanita Anderson, Kirstin Crabbe and Tonia Ogle; her grandpups: Shaggy Moo, Bella and Scooby; her grandkids adopted with love: Kaylen and Molly Collins, Heath, Chloe and Trey, Jessica Mullinex and Kennedy Mullinax; brothers and sisters: Vera and Steve Etheridge of Dahlonega, Charlie and Debbie Hunsinger of Dahlonega, Doug and Lynn Gooch of Dahlonega, Cheryl Hunsinger of Dahlonega and “Granny” Irene Carpenter of Dahlonega, Fran Maloch od Dahlonega; and numerous other extended relatives.

Debbie Ann was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan who loved coffee, Pups, her daughter and ironing clothes until they were stiff as a board.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Her service will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home, officiated by Nephew David Brown and Preacher Jason Hester with interment following at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega.

Dahlonega Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Daniel Kenneth Haas, age 61 of Dahlonega, Georgia. March 7, 1958 – January 20, 2020

He is the son of Sheldon and Anne Haas. He is preceded in death by his loving grandparents Kenneth and Madelyn Iloff; Aunts Janet Jennings and Joy Iloff; Cousins Donna, Debra, and Michael Jennings; Loving ex wife Teressa Haas and baby daughter Krystl Haas; Brother Wayne Haas; Father Sheldon Haas.

He is survived by mother and step father Anne and David Sears; Sister, Lu-Anne (Michael) Rehmer; Brother, Eric (Cynthia) Haas; Sons, Kenneth (Daphne) Haas and Christopher (Anita) Haas; Granddaughter, Nevaeh Haas; Step grandchildren, Cody, Cambree, Stephan, and Josh. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

After highschool, Daniel joined the Marine Corp, completing his basic training at Parris Island and then being stationed in Quantico, VA. Daniel was his mother’s right hand man. He fulfilled everyone’s wishes and there was nothing that he could not do or fix. While in highschool, he worked in the nursing home as an Orderly. Everyone there loved seeing him come in everyday. As a child, he had a best friend that was a deafmute. He was always able to communicate with him and they had such a good time playing. After being honorably discharged from the military, Daniel received an education in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and worked as a salesman for many years.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 4:00 in the Chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home with Rev. Geherdt Michael officiating. A visitation will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home from 2:00 – 4:00 prior to the service. In Lieu of Flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Kindred Hospice. Mr. Edward Brown, age 69, of Dahlonega passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020.

Mr. Brown was born in Lumpkin County on October 31, 1950 to the late H.M. and Annie Bell Milsap Brown.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Martha Brown, brother Hoyt Brown, and sisters Nellie Hope and Geneva Milsap.  Mr. Brown loved old cars and attending car shows.  He loved riding back roads, hiking, and walking in the park.  An old western and a fishing trip or camping trip was a favorite pastime of his.  Mr. Brown loved his grandkids who affectionately called him “Poppa”.

Survivors include his sons James Brown, Gainesville, and Michael Brown, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Mackenzie Brown; grandchildren Emily Brown, Alex Brown, and Austin Brown.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Yahoola Baptist Church.  The Rev. Kris Butler will officiate.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Amy B. Waters, age 85, of Dahlonega, passed away Friday, January 17, 2020.

Mrs. Waters was born in Alabama on June 11, 1934 to the late George and Wanda Mae Golden Mason.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Waters.  Mrs. Waters was a faithful servant of the Lord and spent her time reading and studying the Bible.  She loved to garden, cook and can fresh vegetables.  Mrs. Waters was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Granny”.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-laws Sheila and Mike Adams, Marietta, and Myra and Joel Tapp, Gainesville; sons Michael Jackson, Carlton, and Wiley Sims, Athens; brother Marion Mason; grandchildren Susan Adams, Kathy and Daniel Ippolito, and Philip Tapp; great-grandchildren Emylia Ippolito, Noah Ippolito, Sophia Ippolito, Katherine Ippolito and Caroline Ippolito; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. John (“Gus”) Lennon Evans was born February 17, 1946 in Mobile, AL and died in Dahlonega, GA on January 17, 2020 where he had lived since 1980. He was predeceased by his parents Frederick and Dorothy Evans, his previous wife of 19 years, Kate Evans, and brother Walter Evans.

He is survived by his wife Wendy Evans; his siblings Drew (Marilyn) Evans, Will (Dona) Evans, and Tara (Ray) Evans; his wife’s siblings Kathy (Doug) Martin, John M. Hunt, Pete Johnson, and Kelly Johnson; his children John Lennon (Heather) Evans, Jr., Becky (Zach) Singleton, and Joshua (Brooke) Evans; and his grandchildren Joseph Evans, Jamie Evans, Gracie Singleton, Vivian Singleton, Sophia Singleton, Charlotte Singleton, Georgiana Singleton, Louisa Singleton, and Emelia Evans.

John was raised in Daytona Beach, FL and graduated from Mainland High School.  John was trained and worked for Eastern Airlines as a FAA certified aircraft mechanic for 23 years, moving him from Florida to Georgia until Eastern closed their operations.  After that Northwest Airlines employed John where he worked until 2002 when Northwest closed their aircraft maintenance base in Atlanta, GA.  John finished up his aircraft maintenance career at Lockheed in Marrietta, GA.

John was a skilled woodworker and known for his meticulous handiwork.  He could build or fix anything.  John loved fishing, hunting, hiking the Appalachian Trail, dogs (actually all creatures), trees, plants, camp fires, helping others, but most of all he loved his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2020.

Mr. James Benny Chester, age 66, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, January 17, 2020.

Mr. Chester was born in Lumpkin County on September 29, 1953 to the late Walter and Virgie Mayfield Chester.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy Chester and sister Alice Berchel.  Benny was a loving husband, father, grandfather, community leader and friend.  He was born and raised in north Georgia and few had more knowledge or understanding of the history of the state than he.  Benny spent many hours volunteering around the community educating children and adults on the history of gold mining in north Georgia, checking on the properties of the Weekend Gold Miners Club (WEGM), being interviewed on the local radio station or newspaper, or enjoying dinner with Joyce Conner, his sweetheart of 23 years.  Benny was an avid fisherman, gold miner, outdoorsman, and history buff.  If you needed help or an education on gold prospecting or fishing, Benny was always willing to give you his time.  Benny held the office of Vice President of the WEGM and was the former GPAA State Director for Georgia.  No one was a better friend and mentor than Benny Chester.  He will live on in the hearts and minds of his family, friends and the community.

Survivors include his life companion Joyce Conner; children and their spouses Donald Wayne and Melissa Chester, April and Jeff Michael, Andrea and Justin Wilson, and Amber Chester; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Perry Lance; brother William Chester; brother and sister-in-law Danny and Lois Gibson; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nephew and fishing buddy Jeremy Sisk; nephew and spouse Dee and Betty Chester; and other relatives.

Carol Eck, 87, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on January 3, 2020.

Carol was born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 1, 1932 to William and Jean Masters.

Carol earned her nursing degree in 1953 from Presbyterian University Hospital in Pennsylvania. She practiced nursing as an RN in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Georgia. She had a diverse nursing career that lasted 40 years.

Carol and Tom moved to Dahlonega, Georgia in May 1997. They became active members of Dahlonega United Methodist Church. Carol and Tom sang in the choir for many years. They loved Dahlonega, the Holly Theater, and the mountains.

Carol and Tom purchased an RV and lived their retirement dream. They traveled throughout the United States and Alaska. They made wonderful RV friends and had lasting memories of their trips.

She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Eck and parents William and Jean Masters, and her son Richard Mills.

Carol is survived by her children Linda Mahler (Stewart) of Cumming, Georgia and Cara Jones of Chamblee, Georgia. She also has two step children Bonnie Lovelle (Jimmie) of Tampa, Florida and Tem Eck of Flowery Branch, Georgia. Carol has six grandchildren; Duke Mills of Jacksonville, Florida, Joe Mills of Jacksonville, Florida, Tommy Eck of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Duncan Eck of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Katie (Matt) Matthews of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Carter Hastings of Land O Lakes, Florida.

Carol has six great grandchild; Gemma Phoenix Shahan of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Taylor Matthews of Kennesaw, Georgia, Drew Matthews of Kennesaw, Georgia, Austin Hastings of Land O Lakes, Florida, Lyla Hastings of Land O Lakes, Florida, and Wylder Hastings of Land O Lakes, Florida.

Visitation will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 3:00 to 5:00pm.

The Funeral Service will be held at Dahlonega United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11:00am.

Mr. Michael Lee Davis, age 32, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020.

Michael was born in Demorest on October 9, 1987.  He was preceded in death by his brother Anthony Paul Davis and grandparents J.B. and Louise Davis.  Michael loved to fish. His passion was working on or riding anything with a motor on it.  He operated heavy equipment with Strickland and Son Pipeline.  Michael loved and cherished his daughter Bella.  He loved to ride the mountain back roads.

Survivors include his father and step-mother Anthony and June Davis, Dahlonega; daughter Bella Reese Davis, Cleveland; twin brother and sister-in-law Jamie Neal and Brook Davis, Dahlonega; brother Jacob Davis, Cleveland; mother Patricia Walker, Dahlonega; sisters April Gomez, Dahlonega, and Bree Elias, Dahlonega.

Mr. N. H. Satterfield, Jr., age 82, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, January 13, 2020.

Mr. Satterfield was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County.  He was born on October 12, 1937 to the late Newton Harry, Sr. and Arizona Meers Satterfield.  N.H. was a handy man and worked in many places from farms to the U.S. Forrest Service in maintenance.  He was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sister Corene Satterfield, Dahlonega; and several cousins.

Mrs. Haygood was born in Suches on December 7, 1930 to the late Rev. Sherman David, Sr. and Thressa Mae Anderson Stover.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Haygood; daughter Ruth Shiflett; brothers Sidney Stover, John Stover, Sherman Stover, Jr., Herman Stover, Billy Stover, and James Stover; and sisters Ruby Nevell, Mary Garrett, and Mattie Dailey.  Mrs. Haygood was a loving mother and grandmother.  She was a member of Harmony Church of God.

Survivors include her children Michael Fitzpatrick, Stephen Fitzpatrick, and Carolyn Shiflett; brother M.J. Stover; sisters Edna Griffis, Eva Nell Pruitt, and Carolyn Ray; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lebanon Baptist Church.  Mrs. Haygood will lie in state at the church from 11:30 AM until the hour of the funeral.  The Rev.
