Todd Shirley

December 20, 1972 – March 09, 2019

Todd Eugene Shirley, 46, of Dahlonega passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at his residence. Todd was employed in the catering industry and was an avid sports enthusiast who loved hiking and spending time in the outdoors.

Todd was preceded in death by his brother, Troy Wayne Shirley. He is survived by his father and wife, Eugene and Lynda Shirley of Marietta, GA and his mother, Linda Golden of Lexington, SC. Other relatives also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Hagan officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Todd’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn. Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.

Robert Eugene Parsons

Mr. Robert Eugene “Gene” Parsons, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019.

Mr. Parsons was born in Hall County on July 22, 1940 to the late Dewitt and Gladys Brooksher Parsons. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Robert Stephen Parsons. Mr. Parsons was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He loved Bluegrass music and he loved to play his guitar, mandolin, and banjo. He was a loving father and grandfather and was lovingly called “Papa Gene”.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Parsons, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law Phillip and Tammy Parsons, Murrayville; daughter Vicky Claudine Parsons, Dahlonega; grandchildren Sydney Parsons and Jordyn Parsons; sisters Shelvie Miller, Gainesville, and Montez Marlow, Commerce; sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Bud Davis, Gainesville; brother Ashley Parsons, Gainesville; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Homer Henry Dockery

Mr. Homer Henry Dockery, age 88, of Dahlonega, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019.

Mr. Dockery was a native lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on February 17, 1930 to the late William Webster and Florence Nix Dockery. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Clydie Bell Howard Dockery, siblings Viola Dockery, Odell Jones, H.R. Dockery, Pauline Andrews, Bernice Winn, Earl Dockery, Curvin Dockery, and Curtis “John” Dockery. Mr. Dockery served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a truck driver and worked on his family farm. Mr. Dockery was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters Elaine Tripp, McDonald, TN; Linda Cantrell, Dahlonega; sisters Mildred Harkins, Cleveland, and Minnie Lou Head, Dahlonega; brother Douglas Dockery, Clarkesville; grandchildren Scott Cantrell, April and Chris Hubbard, and Bryan and Brittney Cantrell; great-grandchildren Hannah Coleman, Brooklyn Cantrell, and Christen Hubbard; and great-great-grandchild Nevaeh Murray.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Dockery and the Rev. Jack Pilcher will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Betty Ruth Wharry, age 96, of Dahlonega, formerly of Nashville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019.

Mrs. Wharry was born in Thompsonville, Illinois on January 17, 1923 to the late Fred and Daisy Pritchard Read.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Orley H. Wharry, sisters Hazel Ellwell, Zella Read, Lorraine Kachelhoffer, and Vivian Read, and brother Bud Read.  Mrs. Wharry was a member of First Baptist Church Nashville, Illinois.  She had worked as a nurse’s aid and in medical records at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, Illinois.  Mrs. Wharry was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth Joan and Jim Brown, Arlington, TX; son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Mary Ellen Wharry, Dahlonega; sister Wilma Plumley, Pinckneyville, Illinois; grandchildren Jay and Ashley Brown, Houston, TX; Jon and Kristin Willette, Lavonia; Joseph and Tiffany Brown, Argyle, TX; Chris and Brenda Wharry, Spring, TX; Janelle and Craig Drenowatz, Frisco, TX; and Rebecca and Denise O’Gara, Brownsburg, IN; great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Kiersten, Ethan, Kennedy, Jaden, David, Braden, Briana, Ainsley, Titus, Jude, Layla and Lily; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the chapel of Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville, Illinois.  The Rev. Scott Sharp will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Masonic Cemetery in Nashville, Illinois.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour on Wednesday at Styninger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vernis Louise Hughes, age 92, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, January 7, 2019.

Mrs. Hughes was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County.  She was born on May 29, 1926 to the late Ollie and Sallie Dowdy Smith.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Warren Hughes. Mrs. Hughes was the last of five children.  She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter Charlotte Hughes, sons Charles Hughes, Bobby Hughes (Bridget), and Michael Hughes, all of Dahlonega; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in Dahlonega Memorial Park.  The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Homer Lee Davis, age 75 of Dahlonega, passed away on December 1, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Douglas, Georgia to Bryant and Lois Davis on February 8, 1943.   He is also preceded in death by his wife of 31 years Elaine Seabolt Davis, brothers Garvis and Roy, sister ClaraMay and brother in laws Mark and Hoyt Seabolt.

Homer was an avid hunter and loved to garden. Over the years Homer has had many professions from construction to truck driving.

Homer is survived by sons and daughter in laws, Raymond and Angie Cantrell, Cleveland, JR and Rebecca Davis, Murrayville, Tony and Daphne Davis, Gainesville, daughter and son in laws, Valerie and Tyler Gilbert, Clermont, Gina and Greg Sexton, Gainesville, grandchildren, Cohen, Rylan and Ridge Cantrell, Judd and Allie Davis, Anthony and Justin Davis, Jeremy and Gavin Sexton. Sisters and brother in laws, Reba Kirkland, Springfield, Josie and William Jackson, Nickels, Jean and Allen Anderson, Hazelhurst, Christine and John Davis, Douglas.  Brother in laws and sister in laws, Henley Seabolt, Dahlonega, Kendall and Debbie Seabolt, Dawsonville, sister in laws and brother in laws, Katie and Dean Davis, Patsy and Ronnie Lingerfelt, all of Dahlonega, Tina and Jack Lowman, Murrayville, Susie and Shawn McCune, Summitville, IN,  and Anna Seabolt, Dahlonega.  A number of other family and friends survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday December 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dahlonega Funeral Home chapel Tim Sullens and Timothy Sullens will officiate. Family will receive friends on Monday December 3, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Yahoola Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rebecca Bowens Watson, age 69, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

Rebecca was born in Columbus, GA on July 9, 1949 to the late Jimmie Tobie and Mary Lee Bowens. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Edward Watson, Sr.; sister Lillian Larraine Davis; brothers Rufus White, Lamar Bowens, and Jimmie Bowens. Rebecca was a loving mother and grandmother and deeply loved by her family. She was a homemaker and she deeply loved the people of Yahoola Baptist Church. The church’s ministry to Rebecca during her illness brought great comfort to her family.

Survivors include her daughter Yvette Gooch (Kenneth), Cleveland; sons James Edward “Bubba” Watson, Cornelia, and Cory Watson, Midway, GA; grandsons Shannon Gooch and Kevin Gooch; sisters Sue Ray, and Marie Fleming (David); nieces Donna Sue Ray and Diane Burgess, all of Columbus; several other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, GA. The Rev. Kris Butler will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Judith Miller Lee, age 75, of Dahlonega passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

Mrs. Lee was born in Bainbridge, GA on July 12, 1943 to the late Ralph Norton and Catherine Hudson Miller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Phillip Lee; daughter Jodie Turner; and the father of her children Jim Turner.  Mrs. Lee loved to garden. Her favorite flower to watch grow was the iris.  Reading and watching birds was a favorite past time of Mrs. Lee.  She was affectionately called “Grandma” by her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Jaye Turner and Timmy Booth, Chattanooga, TN; and Joanie and Guy Chembars, Dahlonega; Step-son and daughter-in-law Phillip and Amanda Lee, Troy, AL; grandchildren Kara Howard, Cody Chembars, Jesse Chembars, Zachary Chembars, and Jody Chembars; great grandchildren Lane Howard, Grace Chembars, Reagan Chembars, Oliver Chembars, and Payton Chembars; brother and sister-in-law Billy and Cheryl Miller, Meigs, GA; sister Ann Collins, Troy, AL; sisters and brothers-in-law Doris and Willard Mills, Oakwood; and Jane and Bobby Burt, Lynn Haven, FL;  several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Lee’s wishes were to be cremated and a private memorial service will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the family for use in benefit of the new Lumpkin County Library when constructed.  Mrs. Lee’s lifelong love of reading and sharing love with others will be honored in an appropriate fashion.

Mr. Brian Joseph Morin, age 39, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018.

Brian was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 15, 1979.  He was preceded in death by his mother Bernice Skropka Morin, paternal grandparents Paul and Helen Morin, and maternal grandparents Felix and Rosie Skropka.  Brian was a member of Christ Fellowship in Dawsonville.  He was a loving father with the biggest heart and always had a smile to brighten your day. Brian loved to fish.

Survivors include his wife Robin Brown; son Wesley Forrester of Dahlonega; daughter Breanna Housman of Dawsonville; father and step mother Larry and Marilyn Morin of Shawnee, Oklahoma; brothers Si Barker and Shannon Barker of Oklahoma; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim Coty and Jamie Brown of Clarkesville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tammy and Virgil Sisk of Dahlonega; brother in law Timothy Collins, Dahlonega; a very good friend Craig Woodman of Dawsonville; aunt Suzan Vira; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service is scheduled for 6:00 PM Saturday, November 3, 2018 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Jamie Wade and Mr. Craig Woodman will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM Saturday at Anderson-Underwood funeral home.
