Mrs. Ella Garrett, age 88, of Dahlonega passed away peacefully Sunday, November 24, 2019.

Mrs. Garrett was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County.  She was born on January 5, 1931 to the late Willie and Hannah Grizzle Berry.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Loyd Hoyt Garrett; son-in-law Doyle Butler; brothers Leon Berry, Newt Berry, and Frank Berry; sisters Viola Fields, Cleo Rice, Joyce Barrett and Beveleene Beasley.  Mrs. Garrett had worked for many years at Burlington.  She was a loving mother and “Granny”.  Mrs. Garrett loved spending time gardening and fishing.  She always fished with a cane pole and Jay Bridge and Cane Creek were some of her favorite places to go fishing.  Mrs. Garrett was a member of Nimblewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Shirley and L.C. Truelove, Dahlonega; daughter Linda Joyce Butler, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-laws Kenneth and Autumn Garrett, Dahlonega, Doug and Pat Garrett, Dahlonega, and Donald and Tammie Garrett, Dahlonega; sister Willie Mae Davis, Dahlonega; grandchildren Jodie and Ashley Truelove, Rev. Kris and Deana Butler, Amy and Casey Hubbard, Nathan and Wendy Garrett, Jennifer and Jay Kaji, Mitchell Garrett, Melissa Garrett, and Brittany Garrett; great-grandchildren Kaden Truelove, Kennidee Truelove, Peyton Truelove, Weston Truelove, Abby Butler, Chelsea Hubbard, Gus Hubbard, Aiden Kaji, Kiran Kaji, Lilly Garrett, Maddie Garrett, and Ema Grizzle; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Kris Butler and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.  Interment will follow at Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lisa Gail Adams, age 51, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019.

Lisa was born in Hall County on October 24, 1968.  She was preceded in death by her brother Larry James Anderson, Jr.  She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents Larry and Martha Anderson; daughter Amanda Adams; son Charles Adams, Jr., all of Dahlonega; sisters Lorrie DeMark, Dahlonega, and Lenette Hutcheson, Cleveland; grandchildren Levi Sullens, Collin Sullens, Abel Adams, and Lane Adams, all of Dahlonega.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.  Lisa’s wishes were to be cremated after the service.

Shelby Smith Fields: Obituary

Mrs. Shelby Smith Fields, age 79, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019.

Mrs. Fields was born in Dalton on February 22, 1940 to the late Rev. J.C. and Lovenia Smith.  She was also preceded in death nineteen years ago by her beloved husband David R. Fields, who she was married to for forty-two years, and her brother Harold Smith.  Mrs. Fields deeply loved her family. She loved to cook for them and gave them her greatest asset, her time.  Mrs. Fields retired from the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.  She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include her daughter Pat Bryan; son and daughter-in-law David and Rachel Fields, both of Dahlonega; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Billy Cantrell, of Ellijay; grandchildren Karen and Andrew Antonia, Drew Bryan, Caleb Fields, Jadeyn Fields, Janica Fields, all of Dahlonega; and great-grandchildren Addilaide Antonia and Anniston Antonia, both of Dahlonega. Nephews William and Beverly Cantrell and Chris Cantrell all of Ellijay.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 PM Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Edwin Puckett, the Rev. David Masters and the Rev. David Fields will officiate.  Interment will follow in Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Bascom Junior Martin: Obituary

Mr. Bascom Junior Martin, age 68, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, November 8, 2019.

Mr. Martin was born in Hall County on July 18, 1951 to the late Willie Bascom, Sr. and Sarah Ethel Martin.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Cecil Morrison and Joseph “J.D.” Martin, and sisters Alice Tomlin, Willie Nell Evans and Sue Maynor.

Mr. Martin served in the United States Army as a cook during the Viet Nam War.  He was a loving husband, dad, and loyal friend.  Mr. Martin was a family man and he knew the importance of spending time with those he loved.  His grandchildren affectionately called him “Papa”.  Mr. Martin attended Hope Fellowship Church.  His passion was fixing lawnmowers.

Survivors include his wife Kathy Martin, Dahlonega; daughters and sons-in-law Michelle and Paul Phillips, Sugar Hill, Bobbie and Shane Littlefield, Maysville, and Angela and Jeff Pirkle, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law Billy and Melanie Martin, Jefferson;  sister and brother-in-law Marie and Jimmy Pettis, Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law Paul and Deborah Martin, Gainesville, David “Dink” Martin, Dahlonega, and James and April Martin, Gainesville; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Donnie Adams will officiate.  Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Edward Aaron Pritchett, Sr., age 72, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ed was born in Cleveland, Georgia on January 21, 1947 to the late J.C. and Thelma Humphries Pritchett.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Pritchett, Jr.  Ed grew up in the Cornelia/Cleveland area.  He attended Falls Business College and moved to South Georgia in 1966 to follow the love of his life, Shirley Burtz Pritchett.  He worked for Mitchell Electrical Membership Cooperation for 30 years and retired as CEO.  Ed was a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley Pritchett, Dahlonega; son and daughter-in-law Aaron and Michelle Pritchett, Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and Chris Welch, Dahlonega; grandchildren Stephen and Ashley Pritchett, Jared Pritchett, all of Valdosta; and Lauren and Christopher Welch, Dahlonega.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Dahlonega Baptist Church.  Dr. Steven Wright and the Rev. Harris Malcom will officiate.  Interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends Friday, November 22, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and Saturday from 10:00 AM until the service hour at Dahlonega Baptist Church.

Larry Eugene Floyd: Obituary

Mr. Larry Eugene Floyd, Sr., age 83, of Dahlonega passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019.

Mr. Floyd was born in Canton on July 19, 1936 to the late L. Eugene and Hallie Hudson Floyd.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Larry Eugene Floyd, Jr.  Mr. Floyd attended college at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega.  He transferred to the University of Georgia in Athens and graduated from the School of Pharmacy.  He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.  Mr. Floyd served in the United States Air Force Reserves for six years.  He practiced pharmacy for more than 50 years much of which consisted of owning his own pharmacy, Stanford Drug Store in Cuthbert, GA.

After 33 years of serving his neighbors and friends in Cuthbert, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd retired and moved to Dahlonega, GA.  He continued his practice at Dahlonega Pharmacy providing relief for the local druggist.  Mr. Floyd loved the game of golf and playing his guitar.  He loved his church, First Baptist Church of Cuthbert, where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and was a member of the gospel quartet.

On December 28, 1958 Larry Eugene Floyd, Sr. married Betty Matthews Floyd and their marriage lasted for more than sixty years.  Along with his wife, Mr. Floyd is survived by his daughter Rebecca Bonds, Dawsonville, and his granddaughter Helen Elizabeth “Betsy” Floyd, Columbus, GA.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:30 PM Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Dahlonega Memorial Park.  The Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ralph “Mike” DeLay: Obituary

Ralph “Mike” DeLay age 80 of Murrayville passed away on October 16th, 2019. Mike was born in Atlanta, GA. and grew up in the Smyrna area. He attended Campbell High School and served in the Army. Mike loved coaching JAAA Little League in Jonesboro and did so for many years. He was a self made man and started his own business DeLay Plumbing Company. He was active in his Methodist church and adored his family and grandchildren, whom all were so special to him.    Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years Phyllis E. DeLay, children W. Ray Parker, daughter in law Michele Parkel,  daughter Kelli Scott, daughter in law Michael Delay, grandchildren, Dylan & Trent Parkel, Aron, Miranda, and Josh Scott, Jordan DeLay, Stephanie DeLay, Leeanna Tweed, Logan Tweed, great granddaughter Blaelyn, brother and sister in law David & Sharon DeLay.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday October 21, 2019 at 11:30 am at Dahlonega Funeral Home military honors to be present and visitational reception to follow.

Roger Wayne Burns age 72 of Dahlonega, passed away on November 7, 2019. Mr. Burns was a long time Dahlonega resident. Mr. Burns owned and operated his own construction and grading business. He loved his family and enjoyed working hard. He was an Army Veteran.

Mr. Burns is preceded in death by his parents Mary Elizabeth & Clayton Burns, and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Vicki Mincey Burns, his sons Chad & Jeffery Burns of Dahlonega, brother Ronald (Brenda) Burns of Suches, GA, sister Caroline (Loyd) Anderson of Dahlonega, granddaughter Cheyenne Burns, great granddaughters Alaina Burns and Maevrey Mabrey, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Family will receive friends on Saturday November 9, 2019 from 4pm until 9pm and again on Sunday from 10 am until 3pm. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday November 10, 2019 at 3pm in the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home, interment to follow at Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery in Dahlonega. Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating with military honors at the cemetery.

Eda Christine Ragsdale: Obituary

Mrs. Eda Christine Ragsdale, age 86, of Dahlonega passed away on November 23, 2019.

Eda was born August 28, 1933 in Selma, Alabama to the late Rudolph and Blanche Lawhon.  She grew up in Laurel, Mississippi, and graduated from George S. Gardner High School in 1950.  Eda studied at MS State College for Women and the University of TN, Knoxville.

Eda developed an interest in law enforcement with her first job working in the crime lab at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the 1950’s.  While raising her children she worked as a crossing guard at their school.  Eda served as a Police Officer with the Dekalb County Police Department from 1965 to 1985 and was with the Dekalb School System Transportation Department from 1987 to 1995.  In 1995 she retired and moved to Dahlonega, Georgia where she worked for the Gold Museum for two years.

Eda is survived by her children Deborah Ragsdale, Steven Ragsdale, and Forrest Ragsdale (Lisa); her grandchildren Miranda Mitchell (Andrew), Adelaide Leonard, Tori Ragsdale, and James Ragsdale; and nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Eda is preceded in death by her husband James Ragsdale and sister Marie Oglesby.

Eda was a devoted mother and grandmother who was always there for her family.  She enjoyed her retirement in the beauty of the north Georgia mountains. She loved all living creatures and rescued many animals throughout her life.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
