Lois Virginia Bryan: Obituary
Obituaries October 9, 2018
Lois Virginia Bryan age 81 of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on October 6, 2018. Mrs. Bryan is of Baptist faith and was a native to Lumpkin County.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hartwell Bryan.
Mrs. Bryan is survived by her children; Lynn (Lori) Bryan, Freddie (Sissy) Bryan, Scott (Karen) Bryan, Tammy (David) Daniel, her sisters Charlotte (Lee) Bryan and Jessie (Arnold) Couch, grandchildren; Jody Bryan, Jessica Bryan, Brittany (John) Hill, and Chase (Lorin) Bryan; great grandchildren Anna & JT Hill. Numerous other relatives also survive.
Family will receive friends on Sunday October 7, 2018 from 2-6pm at Dahlonega Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Monday October 8, 2018 at 4pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Nancy Lou Taylor: Obituary
Obituaries October 5, 2018
Mrs. Nancy Lou Taylor, age 87, of Dahlonega, formerly of East Point, GA, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Portsmouth, OH on February 23, 1931 to the late Willard M. and Katherine Call Beekman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Taylor was one of ten children leaving only one of her siblings still living.
Mrs. Taylor had worked as an administrative assistant for 29 years at Point University (formally known as Atlanta Christian College). Her heart was dedicated to serving the Lord at Point University. Mrs. Taylor invested in the students and she loved to interact with them. She loved to read and listen to Gospel music. Her chocolate chip cookies were the best!
Mrs. Taylor left an amazing testimony for her family. She was a faithful member of East Point Christian Church. Mrs. Taylor taught Sunday School and worked faithfully at church camp each year. She was affectionately called “Grandma” by her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Susan Taylor, Springville, AL; son Steven Taylor, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Kathy Taylor, Marietta; Jay and Kelly Taylor, Fayetteville; and David and Toni Taylor, Cleveland; brother William Beekman, Ohio; grandchildren Christopher and Emily Taylor, John and Shalena Taylor, Scott and Tiffany Taylor, Jeffrey Taylor, Jayson and Anna Taylor, Steven Taylor, Valerie and Thomas Aseff, Rebekah Taylor, and Rachel Taylor; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Mrs. Taylor’s wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 23, 2018 at East Point Christian Church. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the church. The Rev. Wye Huxford will officiate.

Remains Found in Tosha Herron Case

Dahlonega, GA. – On Thursday, April 20, 2017, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Rapid Response Team to conduct a large scale woodlands search of the area where Tosha Herron’s wrecked vehicle was found on October 12, 2016 off of Highway 129 North in Lumpkin County, Georgia. The area is considered the Chestatee Wildlife Management Area. This search was expanded beyond the areas previously searched by law enforcement since October 2016.
During the operation, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office Rapid Response Team located a boot that was the mate to Herron’s boot found shortly after the discovery of the accident in October. Additionally, the Rapid Response Team located what appears to be human remains. The remains were collected by the GBI Crime Scene Specialist and will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Officer for examination and identification.
Body Found – Suspect Arrested in Lumpkin County Murder

LUMPKIN CO., Ga. – The body of a missing Murrayville woman was found early Sunday in the woods off Hwy. 60 just north of Dahlonega. The man she had been linked to romantically has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.
Deputies with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation located the body of 41-year-old Wanda Kay McDougald about one mile south of the Union County line shortly after midnight.
Hall County deputies located 52-year-old John Harol Whitfield at a home in Clermont Sunday afternoon. He has been charged with murder and aggravated assault and booked into the Lumpkin County jail.
GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said McDougald and Whitfield had lived together for more than a year.

Could Major Changes in 7-AAA Football be Coming?

Now that the regular season has come and gone, post-season GHSA changes start. The 2016-17 football scene could change for several teams. The realignment comes after a vote to make a new region “Super 44” which puts the top schools with 2,000+ kids in one super region. Now this changes everything from 6A to 1A. For every team that moves up or down another team has to do the same. Schools like Buford who have more than 3% of its kids outside the county are forced to move up with the new rules. Fannin and Banks Counties are looking like they will move down to AA, while East Hall, Lumpkin, Franklin and West Hall are moving to AAAA. Dawson County will remain the only 7-AAA team if all this plays out like suggested. It is unclear just yet as to what region Fannin will move to, but when we find out after the GHSA makes the changes later this year TeamFYNSports will keep you updated.
