Sheriff Stacy Jarrard

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Lumpkin Count Sheriff Stacy Jarrard posted the following alert on the website today:

With the holidays approaching, Scammers are targeting consumers particularly the elderly population in our community. LAW ENFORCEMENT, UTILITY COMPANIES AND THE IRS, will not ask for money over the phone or insist you to buy gift cards. These scammers are portraying to be your grandchild, IRS, warrant for your arrest…these are all SCAMS. I would encourage you to not answer the phone if you do not recognize the number. If it’s important, they will leave a message. Never ever send cash money thru the USPS or any delivery service. These scammers are professionals at this and sound authentic. Stay diligent.
