Lady Indians Ranked #2 In State After Back To Back Wins Over Top 5 Teams

Team FYN Sports

The Lumpkin County Lady Indians just finished up maybe the toughest week of their regular season schedule last week, as they faced off against two top ten teams in AAA basketball.

The 16-3 Indians started the week on the road vs #4 ranked White County, in the first of two times these teams would face each other this year. The Lumpkin Lady Indians defense smothered the Lady Warriors all night and forced 22 turnovers on the way to a 69-43 win. Lexi Pierce led the way offensively for the Indians as she scored 12 of her 23 total points in the second half.

Every Region game is important to a team in terms of playoff seeding, but the Lady Indians game last week vs Wesleyan meant just a little more. Wesleyan handed Lumpkin their first Region loss in 2 years earlier this year, and also snapped their 33-game winning streak.

While the hype around this game was huge, history did not repeat itself as Lumpkin handled Wesleyan with ease and got their revenge against the Wolves this time around. Mary Mullinax played a huge part in the victory, posting a triple-double that included 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Up next for the Lady Indians this week will be a stretch of away games vs West Hall and Gilmer before returning home on the 31st to take on another top 10 team in Pickens County.
