Lady Indians Headed To Second Straight State Championship
Business March 8, 2023
Macon, Ga- The Lumpkin County Lady Indians will be headed to Macon for the second time in as many years. The 26-4 Lady Indians throttled Cavalry Day in their Final Four matchup this past weekend, defeating the Cavaliers by a score of 78-31.
As has been the case all year long, seniors Kate Jackson, Mary Mullinax, Lexi Pierce, and junior Averie Jones led the charge for the Lady Indians vs Cavalry Day. The quartet was responsible for all but 7 of the teams 78 points in the Final Four matchup.
On their quest to repeat as champions, the Indians will face off against a Hebron Christian team that has been terrorizing it’s opponents all year long. The Lions will enter the game on Friday with an unblemished 31-0 record, and having outscored opponents by over 1,200 points. But, while the Lions may be mighty, they’ll be facing a team that has one thing you can’t teach: UNITY.
Lady Indians Head Coach David Dowse has preached all year long about his team being a family, and that was evident last weekend vs Cavalry Day.
Dowse said in an AJC interview post-game: “These girls have been playing together so long. “when you have a senior come on the floor who doesn’t play that much and she scores two baskets and our bench erupts when we are up 50 points, that’s family.”
While the journey to another state championship has not been an easy one, the Indians have made the most of their bumps along the way and have turned regular season bruises into post-season beauty.
While they were unable to repeat as Region 7AAA tournament champions and enter the state tournament as the 1 seed again, ending their regular season on a loss in that Region title game vs Wesleyan could have been the best thing to happen to this team.
Since that loss, the Purple and Gold have won 4 straight playoff games by a combined score of 279-158.
While Lumpkin will certainly be underdogs heading into Friday State Championship game, don’t count them out just yet. This is a team that has proven time and time again they are up for any challenge, and they’ll look to slay Goliath once again.
Tune into GPB on Friday at 1:00PM to cheer on the Indians as they look to make it 2 in a row.

Lady Indians Ranked #2 In State After Back To Back Wins Over Top 5 Teams
Team FYN Sports January 23, 2023
The Lumpkin County Lady Indians just finished up maybe the toughest week of their regular season schedule last week, as they faced off against two top ten teams in AAA basketball.
The 16-3 Indians started the week on the road vs #4 ranked White County, in the first of two times these teams would face each other this year. The Lumpkin Lady Indians defense smothered the Lady Warriors all night and forced 22 turnovers on the way to a 69-43 win. Lexi Pierce led the way offensively for the Indians as she scored 12 of her 23 total points in the second half.
Every Region game is important to a team in terms of playoff seeding, but the Lady Indians game last week vs Wesleyan meant just a little more. Wesleyan handed Lumpkin their first Region loss in 2 years earlier this year, and also snapped their 33-game winning streak.
While the hype around this game was huge, history did not repeat itself as Lumpkin handled Wesleyan with ease and got their revenge against the Wolves this time around. Mary Mullinax played a huge part in the victory, posting a triple-double that included 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Up next for the Lady Indians this week will be a stretch of away games vs West Hall and Gilmer before returning home on the 31st to take on another top 10 team in Pickens County.
Mary Mullinax and Jadon Yeh Named #TeamFYNSports NGA Players Of The Year
TeamFYNSports March 22, 2022
White County’s Jadon Yeh and Lumpkin County’s Mary Mullinax have been named the Team FYN Sports North Georgia Mens and Womens Players of the Year.
Yeh and Mullinax were voted the top basketball players from our coverage area which includes but isn’t limited to: Fannin, Gilmer, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, and Towns Counties.
Jadon Yeh

Just a Junior, Yeh has already eclipsed 1,000 points in his young basketball career. This previous season, he averaged more than 20 points and 6 rebounds per game, while also shooting better than 44% from 3 point range. Yeh helped his team reach the sweet 16 this year, and was also voted Region 7AAA Player of the Year.
Mary Mullinax

Also a Junior, Mullinax accolades are already too long to list. From a torn ACL a year ago to a State Champion today, Mullinax has racked up the state along the way. She nearly 900 career points and 500 career rebounds, and average 17.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists last year. She also helped led Lumpkin County to their first State championship ever this previous year. Mullinax is going to be fun to watch in her senior year, playing on a State Championship team that has all of its players returning.
