Mr. James “Boy” “Spider” Edward Smallwood, age 53, of Dahlonega passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019.

James was born in Hall County on October 5, 1965.  He was preceded in death by his dad L.D. Smallwood, sister-in-law Ann Smallwood, and uncle Roger Smallwood.  James was a beloved “Papa” to his two granddaughters.  He loved to fish, hunt, and camp with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Michelle Smallwood; son and daughter-in-law Roger and Quaneshia Smallwood; daughter and fiance Melissa Smallwood and Lee Jarrells, all of Dahlonega; daughter Brianna Smallwood, Clarkesville; son Steven Evans, Dahlonega; son Jesse Loudermilk, Cumming; granddaughters Ava and Kleo Smallwood; mother Frances Smallwood, Murrayville; sister and brother-in-law Janice and Joe Stringer, Dahlonega; brother Willis Smallwood, Ellijay; brother and sister-in-law Doug and Sandra Smallwood, Dahlonega; sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Jason Chambers, Dahlonega; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Friday, September 6, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Tim Hicks, the Rev. Les Fuller, and the Rev. Tom Few will officiate.  Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Wednesday and 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Qualifying is under way in Dahlonega city council races

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Qualifying for Posts 4, 5 and 6 on the Dahlonega City Council started Monday and will continue through Friday.

First-day qualifiers include incumbent Post 5 Councilwoman JoAnne Taylor and Tony Owens who qualified in Post 4. Ron Larson qualified for reelection to Post 6.

To qualify to run for city council in Post 4, 5 and 6, the qualifying fee is $144. Qualifying will continue at City Hall, 465 Riley Road, until Friday. The hours are 8:30 a.m. until noon and 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Douglas Robert Manning, 79, of Dahlonega passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on August 17, 2019 following a brief illness.  Born on February 7, 1940 to the late Percy and Olive Manning, Mr. Manning grew up in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and sister-in-law Sandie Manning.  He is survived by his wife Anne Manning of Dahlonega, son Nigel Manning and his wife Heather, daughter Anne Hall and her husband Stan, son Nearing Adams and his wife Sara, daughter Athley Wear, daughter Caroline Eltringham and her husband Burke, brother Roger Manning and his wife Enid, sister Valerie Harder and her husband Hans, brother Keith Manning, grandson Matthew Hall, grandson Daniel Manning, grandson Peter Manning, granddaughter Sophie Hall, granddaughter Amy Thompson and her husband Jamie, granddaughter Rollins Wear, granddaughter Julia Adams, grandson Pace Eltringham, grandson Samuel Eltringham, grandson Sterling Eltringham, great-grandson Charlie Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Manning moved to the United States in 1985 to work as an executive for a hygiene services company.  In 1998, he was appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his contribution to business relations between S.E. United States and United Kingdom.  After retirement, he founded Wellbeing Hygiene, and worked there until it’s sale in 2016. Mr. Manning was an active member of the Dahlonega United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.  He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his family.

A Celebration of the Life of Mr. Manning will be held at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.  A reception and tea will be held in the fellowship hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wesley Foundation at the Dahlonega United Methodist Church at 107 S. Park Street, Dahlonega, GA 30533 or the Community Helping Place at 56 Camp Glisson Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533.

Jacqueline Sare Shuler age 72 of Gainesville, Ga passed away on August 9, 2019. She was born in Riverside CA to Jack and Wanda Sare and a graduate of Norte Vista HS. Mrs. Shuler was a member of Berea Baptist Church where she was an active part of (as her family stated)… literally everything! She loved her Yorkies, her beautiful lakehouse, and all of her kids, but more than anything she loved her soulmate Harry. She was so kind, generous, and was loved by all. She will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Shuler is survived by her spouse of Harry Shuler, her children Michelle Adas (Jack), Bob Congrove (Cindy), step children Julie Schwausch (Steve), Russell Shuler, Mark Shuler, and Laura Johnson, her grandchildren ; Aaron (Toni) Anna, and Alyssa Adas, Hannah, Abbey, and Emma Congrove, Tommy Schwausch, Stephanie Boatwright, Jared and Austin Shuler, Savannah and Stirling Johnson, and several great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 17th at 1:30 pm at Berea Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 12:30pm until service time at the church.

Walter Donald Anderson: Obituary

Mr. Walter Donald Anderson, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, August 12, 2019.

Mr. Anderson was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County.  He was born on November 26, 1940 to the late Elmer Carl and Willie Mae Early Anderson.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughters Donna Butler and Rhonda Stephenson; his sister Brenda Grizzle; and his brother Heyward Anderson.

Mr. Anderson retired as a truck driver and he was a member of Cavender Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his grandchildren Jonathan and Danielle Butler, Jade and Will Gates, Adam and Holly Ray, and Reanna and Dillion Brown; great-grandchildren Jase Butler, Kade Butler, Beau Butler, Kayton Gates, and Mason Ray; brothers and sisters-in-law Tony and Susan Anderson, Melvin and Deborah Anderson, and Dudley and Suzanne Anderson; sister-in-law Joyce Anderson; brother-in-law Tracy Grizzle; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Stephen Adams will officiate.  Interment will follow in Cavender Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour Wednesday at the funeral home.

October 19, 1924 – June 23, 2019

Jack Frank Chapman, 94 of Dahlonega, GA passed away on Sunday Junes 23, 2019. He was born in Akron, Ohio on October 19, 1924, to the late Leonard and Lela Chapman. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Frankie Juanita Chapman. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bonnie J. Chapman; son and daughter in law, Bob and Dena Chapman; daughter, Cathy Garner; grandson, Cale Chapman; granddaughters, Morgan (Ty) Maxwell; Sawyer Jones; Shyloh Garner; and great-grandson, Jack Dean Maxwell. Jack worked for Tenneco Gas Company as surveyor and engineer for 35 years. He traveled throughout the United States overseeing the installation of natural gas pipeline and retired from the company as Assistant Superintendent. After his retirement, Jack returned to live in his beloved homeplace of Dahlonega, GA. He honorably served during WWII as flight engineer in the United States Navy.

Visitation will be Wednesday June 26th, 2019 at Dahlonega Funeral Home from 6pm until 8pm and Thursday 12pm until time of service. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm on Thursday, June 27th, 2019 in the Chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home.

David Alan Kinkaid

August 06, 1955 – June 14, 2019

Mr. David Alan “The Peanut Man” Kinkaid passed away at his home in Dahlonega, Georgia on June 14, 2019 at the age of 63.

After his birth in Illinois and living a short while in South Carolina, David grew up and lived the majority of his life in the Dahlonega, Georgia community. He graduated from Lumpkin County High School in 1974 and then went on to receive a Certificate of Electrical Wiring and began his career in construction. Many homes in the Dahlonega area have received the love of his hands. Later in life, many of us enjoyed visiting David, “The Peanut Man”, off highway 19 and his offerings of key-lime jalapeno boiled peanuts (patent pending), natural honey, watermelons, tomatoes, and intentional conversations.

David has joined his predeceased mother, Betty Kinkaid, and is survived by his father, Don Kinkaid of Gainesville, Georgia; his younger brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Susan Kinkaid of Dahlonega, Georgia; his niece, Elizabeth Kinkaid of Edinburgh, Scotland; and his nephew and niece-in-law, Daniel and Brenna Kinkaid of Charlotte, North Carolina.

A memorial service for David will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2019 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Davis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service, also at the funeral home.

Ragland Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren , Alan Russell, Gabriel Russell, Rachelle (Nathan) Cross, Randy (Nicole) Hampel, Jonathan Hampel, Megan (Corey) Caylor, Cody (Traci) Hampel, Tyler Hampel, and Jeffery Levi Kent; numerous great grandchildren and other relatives also survive.

June 24, 1946 – February 13, 2019

Carol Ann Bowers, 72 passed away peacefully in her home on February 13, 2019. A celebration of her life will be 4PM, Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home. She was born in Scranton, PA on June 24, 1946 to the late Daniel V. and Crystal L. Cordelli. Carol was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High in Rockville, MD. She started her career as a reservationist for United Airlines where she met her husband Daniel E. Bowers of 51 years. She went on to become a flight attendant and recently celebrated 52 years flying for Delta Airlines based out of Atlanta, GA. Carol was passionate about animals. She and her husband Daniel were active in the Dahlonega Animal Shelter and adopted 10 cats and dogs over the years. Her parents, two brothers, Ronald J and Daniel V. Cordelli, Jr (Kathy) predeceased her in death. She is survived by her husband Daniel Bowers, sister Melanie Page (Rocky), brother Gregory Cordelli, nieces Amber Cordelli, Amanda Cordelli and nephews Justin Cordelli and Gregory Cordelli, Jr. Carol and her family would like to thank Pam Wright for the loving care she provided to Carol through her illness.
