McIntyre, Champion lead Nighthawks to season-opening win over North Greenville

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Blake McIntyre put up 25 points while Frank Champion notched a double-double as the University of North Georgia men’s basketball team won its season opener with an 87-79 win over North Greenville in the Tri-Conference Challenge Friday at Georgia College.

After jumping out to an 11-8 lead midway through the first half, UNG went on a 10-0 run, capped off by back-to-back threes from McIntyre. The Nighthawks led by as many as 15 in the first half before the Crusaders clawed back to a six point deficit at the half.

North Georgia led the entire second half, but North Greenville was able to cut the lead to two with two minutes to play before UNG went on an 8-0 run to extend the lead back to double figures and secure the win.

NOTES
– McIntyre went 8-for-12 from behind the arc to get 24 of his 25 points.

– Champion’s double-double consisted of 16 points and 13 boards. Zach Brown contributed 15 points while Darnell Snyers added 14 points.

– UNG shot exactly 50 percent from the floor (31-for-62).
