Coach Caleb Sorrells and the seniors of the Indians football team had planned to host last night’s youth football camp on the football field. But the event was moved indoors after about ten minutes when a storm hit.

Fortunately the Lumpkin County Indians are blessed with an indoor practice facility, and all in attendance didn’t mind running through the rain if it meant they got to continue camp.

Future Indians in elementary through middle school spent the next two hours rotating between several stations that focused on football basics such as blocking, passing and catching. They finished up the night with a little fun by practicing diving catches onto a wrestling mat and an obstacle course competition.

Seniors on the Lumpkin County High School team assisted with the camp and guiding campers through each of the stations.

“It’s awesome to see these guys come out here and to see our seniors kind of pass the torch to the next generation,” said Coach Sorrells. “One of the last things that they’ll do is to say, ‘look, I’m gonna give back to the next group of guys, the kids that are gonna wear this purple jersey and rep Lumpkin County’.”
