Eda Christine Ragsdale: Obituary
Obituaries November 26, 2019Mrs. Eda Christine Ragsdale, age 86, of Dahlonega passed away on November 23, 2019.
Eda was born August 28, 1933 in Selma, Alabama to the late Rudolph and Blanche Lawhon. She grew up in Laurel, Mississippi, and graduated from George S. Gardner High School in 1950. Eda studied at MS State College for Women and the University of TN, Knoxville.
Eda developed an interest in law enforcement with her first job working in the crime lab at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the 1950’s. While raising her children she worked as a crossing guard at their school. Eda served as a Police Officer with the Dekalb County Police Department from 1965 to 1985 and was with the Dekalb School System Transportation Department from 1987 to 1995. In 1995 she retired and moved to Dahlonega, Georgia where she worked for the Gold Museum for two years.
Eda is survived by her children Deborah Ragsdale, Steven Ragsdale, and Forrest Ragsdale (Lisa); her grandchildren Miranda Mitchell (Andrew), Adelaide Leonard, Tori Ragsdale, and James Ragsdale; and nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Eda is preceded in death by her husband James Ragsdale and sister Marie Oglesby.
Eda was a devoted mother and grandmother who was always there for her family. She enjoyed her retirement in the beauty of the north Georgia mountains. She loved all living creatures and rescued many animals throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Johnnie Mae Hutcheson: Obituary

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Hutcheson, age 79, of Dahlonega passed away November 24, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.
Mrs. Hutcheson was born in Lumpkin County on July 17, 1940 to the late Jimmy Trammell and Johnny and Isabelle Trammell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Hutcheson; brothers Clayton Trammell and Hubert Trammell. Mrs. Hutcheson worked faithfully and retired from Southern Switches after many years of service.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Penney and Matt Evans, Dahlonega; grandson Jared Grizzle, Dahlonega; sisters Bobbie Whelchel and Christine Waters; brother and sister-in-law Charles and Betty Trammell; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Antioch Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Whitmire will officiate. Interment will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Laura Lee Cleo Adams, age 54, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, October 7, 2019.
Mrs. Adams was born in California on October 29, 1964. She was preceded in death by her father Earl Adams and brother Lewis Adams.
Survivors include her mother Nancy Emery Adams, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-laws Joshua and Ashley Adams, Dahlonega, James and Ashley Johnson, Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law Johnna and Cody Payne, Suches, daughters Jade Carlisle, Dahlonega, and Jessica Stith; brothers and sisters-in-laws Leo and Pam Adams, and Leland and Renee Adams; brother Carl Adams; sister Carrie Adams; and thirteen grandchildren.

Mrs. Zora Abercrombie McDonald age 97 of Dahlonega passed away on July 28, 2019 following a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. Mrs. McDonald was a loving caretaker by nature and enjoyed cooking and canning.
Mrs. McDonald was preceded in death by her husband Roy McDonald, sons Clinton McDonald and Earl McDonald and grandson Kevin McDonald. She is survived by her daughter Donna (Doug) Cain of Dahlonega, sons Mitchell (Carol) McDonald of Dahlonega and Keith (Linda) McDonald of Cleveland, as well as many grandchildren and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 4th, at 3pm in the chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12pm until time of service.

Mrs. Gertrude Elizabeth Bell Fitts, age 92, of Dahlonega passed from this life and entered into her home with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 with her family at her side.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 15, 1927 to parents Theodore and Anna O’Toole Bell, Gertrude had lived in Dahlonega since 1960. She was a loved and precious wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She truly loved and enjoyed her family. She was one of the first members of St. Luke’s Catholic Church where she was active with the thrift store and White Christmas and she was a member of the church choir. She was also instrumental in the starting of St. Luke’s religious classes. She was a great cook and baker and was famous for her coffee cakes. Gertrude was always ready to feed you anytime, day or night. She loved to see you eat and enjoyed the company. Her pretty blue eyes, hugs and “I love you’s” will be missed. She was an angel with a servant’s heart.
In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years James Clynton Fitts, Sr., infant daughter Susan Fitts, son James C. “Jimmy” Fitts, Jr., brothers Theodore Bell, Frank Bell and George Bell, granddaughter Georgette Fitts, and son-in-law John Albert Madden, Jr. She is survived by her children Elizabeth and Roger Mincey, Claudette Lee, Joseph Fitts, Theresa and David Voss, Arthur and Joan Fitts, all of Dahlonega, Joyce Madden, Elberton, GA, and Dorothy and Randall Brookshire, Murrayville; daughter-in-law Susan Kendall Fitts, Dahlonega; Brother Joseph and Janet Bell, New York; sister Anna May Trotto, Virginia . Ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and other relatives also survive.
Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Dalrymple and Father Michael Revak officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home and a Rosary Service will be held at 5:00 PM.

William “Bill” Moose: Obituary

Mr. William “Bill” Moose, age 67, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, July 12, 2019.
Bill was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on November 29, 1951 to the late Ramey and Lois Thomason Moose. Along with his parents Bill was preceded in death by several siblings and their spouses. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Bill worked in paint and body and he owned his own business. He attended Concord Baptist Church.
Survivors include his beloved dog and companion “Krippy”; sister Sue Dover; sister and brother-in-law Nell and Ray Bearden, all of Dahlonega; several friends, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Sunday, July 14, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Military funeral honors will be given immediately following the service. Bill’s wishes were to be cremated after the service. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martha Swearingen White, 95 years young, passed away on May 26, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Raymond White of Hampton, GA. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Nannie Swearingen of Monetta, SC, as well as her sisters, Francis, Edna, and Lois, all of SC.
Martha is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Celeste White of Dahlonega; Granddaughters, Leslie White and Michael Adams, and Lauren White of Dahlonega; and Great-Grandson, Reid Adams of Dahlonega and several nieces and nephews.
Martha moved to Atlanta from South Carolina in 1964 with her husband and son and went to work for the state of Georgia’s tax revenue office. She retired after 24 years of faithful service, never being late a single day. After her retirement she spent the remainder of her time cutting grass, working in her garden, planting flowers, and cooking her wonderful meals for her family! Her faith was important to her and it was rare that she missed a Sunday at Sunday School.

Mr. Larry Dale Lingerfelt, age 61, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, June 17, 2019.
Larry was born in Lumpkin County on December 10, 1957. He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Lingerfelt. Larry worked with R.C. Grizzle as a truck driver. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife Kathy Lingerfelt; daughter and son-in-law Angela and David Helms; sister Donna Lingerfelt; grandchildren Bryson Helms, Chandler Helms, and Riley Helms, all of Dahlonega.

Mr. Jason Dale Gravley, age 43, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
Jason was born in Cobb County on May 13, 1976 to the late Harvey Lee and Margaret Aline Deavers Gravley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Becky Brown, Jackie Pensula, Robbie Henson and nephew Joshua Royds. Jason was of the Baptist faith and he was a member of the Moose Lodge in Mableton, GA. Jason was a heavy equipment operator for T.W. Phillips Construction.

Mr. Herman Edward “Randy” Whitehead, age 74, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
Mr. Whitehead was born in Jackson County on April 13, 1944 to the late Luther and Nellie Childers Whitehead. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law Calvin and Ruth Whitehead, Eugene and Florine Whitehead, and Jewell and Lottie Whitehead; sisters and brothers-in-law Louise and Olin Stewart, and Janette and R.M. Townsley. Mr. Whitehead loved to hunt and fish. He loved to garden and can his fresh vegetables. He loved his children and grandchildren who called him “Papa-Grandma”. Mr. Whitehead was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Cynthia Whitehead; sons Dwayne Whitehead and Ronald Whitehead; and son and daughter-in-law Shane and Michelle Whitehead, all of Dahlonega; also six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Philippi Baptist Church. The Rev. Jason Fuller and the Rev. Albert Whitlock will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday and again Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the funeral home.

Kelly Wood Melaragno died Monday January 21st, 2019, she was born in Gaffney SC.
Mrs. Don Melaragno is survived by her loving family; husband: Don Melaragno,
children: Jared and Jordan Melaragno and daughter-in-law Éowyn, her parents James and Irene Wood, brothers: Jaime (And Julie) and Jason (and Angel) Wood, extended family; George and Esther Melaragno, Anna and Bryan Wilkins, Steve and Connie Melaragno, Diana and Darrell Reid, Karen and Terry Mabry, and Scott and Kim Melaragno and their families.
Kelly graduated Gaffney High School in 1978 and went on to attend the University of South Carolina. Kelly married the love of her life, Don, on March 14th, 1981 at Buford Street United Methodist Church (BSUMC), where Kelly has been a member since childhood. Kelly devoted her life to being Don’s love, partner, best friend, as well as building a beautiful home, and being a cool, fun, and steadfast mom to their two sons.
Kelly worked as the church secretary at BSUMC for several years where she brightened the lives of members every day. Kelly had a zest for life and always had a new idea. After moving to Georgia in 2011, Kelly developed a passion for reimagining antiques and collectibles and eventually took co-ownership of store called The Red Hound in Commerce, GA.
Kelly leaves a legacy of fierce family loyalty, life-long friendships, and will always be known for her smile and laugh, bringing sunshine and light to all of those around her.
Kelly’s family will hold a memorial service at BSUMC on Saturday, February 2 at 2:00pm, located at 120 E Buford St in Gaffney, SC. To honor Kelly’s wish and celebrate her legacy, there will be a celebration of her life held at Cherokee National Golf Course immediately following the service, located at 442 Cherokee National Hwy, Gaffney, SC.

Mrs. Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Thompson, age 58, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019.
Betty was born in Greenville, SC on January 29, 1960. She was preceded in death by her father Brown William Case, sisters Vyranda Case Falin and Deborah Ruth Case Campbell. Betty was family oriented and loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. Betty was a member of a close knit family. She loved to travel.
