Indians defeat Dawson Co. on senior night

The Lumpkin Co. Indians (2-8, 2-2 Region 7-3A) defeated the Dawson Co. Tigers (0-12, 0-5 Region 7-3A) 3-1 on Tuesday night in Dahlonega. Senior Efrain Contreras was a huge factor for Lumpkin Co. As goalie, the only goal he allowed was with less than a minute left when the game was already out of reach.

Senior Dylan Bodney scored a goal a little over four minutes into the game to allow the Indians to jump out to an early lead. Neither team scored until Senior Gage Benton scored his first goal just before the half ended. Benton scored his second goal of senior night with only seven minutes remaining in the game to seal the win.
Lumpkin Co. hosts Cherokee Bluff this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Tigers have another road game this Friday at East Hall high school.

Lumpkin Co. Indians soccer team falls to East Hall
Lumpkin Co. Soccer, Sports, Team FYN Sports March 3, 2020
The Lumpkin Co. Indians (2-7, 0-1 Region 7-3A) fell to the East Hall Vikings (1-5, 1-0 Region 7-3A) on Tuesday night, March 3, in Dahlonega. The Vikings scored three goals in the second half, and the Indians couldn’t match the scoring outburst.

The first half was a defensive battle, with East Hall scoring the only goal of the half on a penalty kick with 12 minutes remaining on the clock.

East Hall scored three more goals to start the second half. The Indians’ first goal of the game came from junior Gage Benton that was assisted by fellow junior Camden Dover with six minutes remaining. The Vikings scored one more goal three minutes later to win the game 5-1.
The Indians’ next game is Friday, March 6, as they host Cherokee Bluff (0-2-1) at 7:30 p.m.

Lumpkin Co. falls to Lakeview Academy 3-2

The Lumpkin Co. Indians (2-4) fell to the Lakeview Academy Lions (1-2) 3-2 on Monday night in Dahlonega. The Lions scored with only five minutes remaining to take the lead and win the game.

Lakeview scored first with a goal only five minutes into the game. The Indians were able to respond by scoring off a corner kick from #1 Joe Froggatt that was scored off a header from #10 Dylan Bodney. However, the Lions scored another goal with only eight seconds left in the half to take a 2-1 lead at halftime.

It took 31 minutes, but Lumpkin scored first in the second half. #5 Ricky Limehouse scored on a header after a corner kick from Froggatt with nine minutes left in the game. However, the Lions scored again with only five minutes remaining to take a 3-2 lead. They ended up holding onto that lead to win the game.
Lumpkin Co. plays again on Wednesday as they host West Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Brian Cunane is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Lumpkin Co. Indians!
Cunane, a junior, had a standout performance last week for Lumpkin Co. (8-16, 4-8 Region 7-3A).
On Friday, Jan. 28, Cunane scored nine points as the Indians defeated North Hall (17-8, 8-4) 57-44 in Dahlonega.
For his efforts, Cunane is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Indians!
Peyton Polk is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Indians!

Peyton Polk is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Lumpkin Co. Indians!
Polk, a 6-foot-6 senior guard/forward, was instrumental in both Region 7-AAA games last week for Lumpkin Co. (8-15, 4-7).
Against Greater Atlanta Christian (16-7, 7-3) on Tuesday, Jan. 21, Polk scored a team-high 14 points, while pulling down seven rebounds, in a 74-43 loss in Dahlonega.
On Friday, Jan. 24, Polk had an all-around strong game with nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists in a 55-47 loss to No. 3 Dawson Co. (21-2, 10-0).
For his efforts, Polk is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Indians!
Lumpkin Co. football Players of the Week recognized
Lumpkin Co. Football, Player of the Week, Team FYN Sports January 27, 2020
The nine players named TeamFYNSports Player of the Week during Lumpkin Co.’s 2019 football season were recognized Monday Jan. 27, at the high school. Each player received a commemorative shirt and a gift certificate for a free meal.

Ethan Kline was named the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for his performance in Week 3.
Week 1, Aaron Hopkins, senior: Against East Jackson on Aug. 23, Hopkins had 10 total tackles (seven solo, three assists) and two sacks.
Week 2, Jason Chamblee, junior: Chamblee had a standout performance and effort against White Co. on Aug. 30.
Week 3, Ethan Kline, senior: Kline was recognized for his all-around strong effort against Jackson Co. on Sept. 6.
Week 4, BoJack Dowdy, senior: Dowdy carried the ball 22 times for 175 yards in Lumpkin Co.’s only win of the season against Gilmer on Sept. 13.

Week 5, Brian Cunane, junior: Cunane was recognized for his five total tackles (two solo, three assists) against Dawson Co. on Sept. 27.
Week 6, Tucker Kirk, senior: Kirk went 7-for-9 for 101 yards and a touchdown passing, while carrying the ball 12 times for 38 yards against Cherokee Bluff on Oct. 11.
Week 7, Jackson Root, senior: Against Greater Atlanta Christian on Oct. 18, Root threw a 29-yard touchdown pass, caught an eight-yard pass, and assisted on a tackle.
Week 8, Noah Adams, senior: Adams had a solo tackle, a sack, and assisted on a tackle against North Hall on Oct. 25.
Week 9, Drew Allison, junior: Allison had 76 yards on 12 carries against Fannin Co. on Nov. 1.
Week 10, Tucker Kirk, senior: Kirk went 13-for-21 for 142 yards and a touchdown passing, while carrying the ball 13 times for 84 yards against East Hall on Nov. 8.

Jacob Cumbie is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Indians!
Cumbie, a senior guard, a three standout games last week for Lumpkin Co. (8-13, 4-5 Region 7-AAA) as the team went 2-0 in region play.
At East Hall (5-13, 1-8) on Tuesday, Jan. 14, Cumbie had a team-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists as the Indians won a big region game, 64-54.
Cumbie followed that with 12 points, a team-high 11 rebounds, and four assists in a 53-44 region win at Fannin Co. (4-14, 0-9).
Against area-rival White Co. (11-11, 3-6 Region 7-4A) on Saturday, Jan. 18, Cumbie scored 15 points and pulled down three rebounds in the narrow, 45-42 loss.
For his effort, Cumbie is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Indians!
